It's been a while since I've kept tabs on trains in the area, and need a refresher. I'm still familiar with Y106, but what other freights currently run on the line east of GR?

East of GR you'd only see Y106, D705, D706, D707 (Lansing-Lake O) and D708 (Lansing-South Lyon). Grain trains run ocassionally for Grand Ledge and Webberville.

Appreciate the info. How come the Q trains are now a D symbol?

To the best of my knowledge, Q trains tend to be long distance ones; trains that travel between states or divisions.
D trains tend to be local to the subdivision.

For example, Q326 goes from Chicago to Grand Rapids. It transfers from NS's Chicago Line to CSX Grand Rapids Sub (Illinois to Indiana to Michigan).
While D705 goes from the yard in Detroit to Wymoing Yard, most of which is encompassed within the Plymouth Sub.

I'm surprised there's a pay scale difference for "D" crews vs. "Q" crews. How much difference in pay is it? Seems to me, both crew types do the same amount of work: Q326 & Q327 dealing with cars in Holland & I had heard Q326 will also be going back to doing work at Arlington Metals in Sawyer (Coil cars).
Then, there's D705 & D706 with their set offs & pick ups at Lansing. If I remember correctly, the Grand Rapids to Chicago run is about 176 miles, but, I don't know what the distance is on the Plymouth sub-division for the run between Grand Rapids and Detroit.
I had learned during my railroad days in Maryland, NS pays the engineers of their Remote Controlled engines less than what an "actual engineer" earns. Their reasoning being "you're paid less because you're not actually inside the engine driving it". I don't know what the pay scale difference was. I'm guessing other freight lines as well follow that same idea for "R/C Engineers" vs. "Actual Engineers"?

D jobs are technically road switchers and are a different kind of service according to CSX, so they pay differently. The actual work performed is irrelevant to payroll. Q326/Q327 are mileage rate through-trains, paying 175 miles for the conductor and 181 for the engineer (different contracts). Not sure what they have D705/706 rated at, but I would guess 130-150. D jobs typically go on overtime sooner, even though the base trip rate is less. Yes, all very interesting and confusing. I don't miss it.

By abolishing Q328/329, going down to one D job and then back to daily D jobs CSX is still saving money compared to when the Qs were on.

Kinda suprised they didn't make Q327 Rougemere to Barr with work/recrew in GR, and the opposite of Q326

That was the way it was back in the olden days (1990's). The economic collapse of 2008 changed a lot of routing and then PSR showed up and that is what they are living under now.
