CSX Train Location Updates - July 2023

L304-09 @ 05:00 eastward reported by the Defect Detector mp CH104.3 Mulliken, Mi with 20 axles. CSX engines #8199 + #8066 & 2 cars. He’s returning to Ensel/Lansing mp CH90.

Did not see anyone make mention of this, but L304-10 arrived in Howell at 0:115 this morning who put 73 cars in the Howell pass for GLC, picked up cars in the transfer and went back to Lansing. First time I believe to see L304 in Howell since the days when 304 used to be D707. Far as I know, the 60-70 cars L305 put into the Brighton pass for GLC nearly two weeks ago is still there. Only two more days for GLC to make their weekly visit to work Howell.

Confirming that cars still sit in the siding here at Brighton. L305 will not be picking them up today.
Of the two cuts stored at Brighton recently, the last four cars on the east end are the same type and order. Wooden poles, a spacer, more poles, and a covered hopper.

17:09 - L303 thru WE Brighton with 5249 + 7807 leading 113 cars after meeting L305 at Fowlerville. Their EOT failed on the way thru, reducing to 30mph.

18:21 - L302 thru EE Brighton with 142 + 298 leading 92 cars. Delayed at CH 35 with a trespasser riding the 12th car. They took the siding at South Lyon for L303.

R597-11 @ 22:11 copied their EC1 at mp CGC 34.0 to depart the power plant in West Olive, Mi & head southward to the Grand Rapids sub-div in Holland, Mi with BNSF #5673 & 130? empty coal cars & rear BNSF #8547 & CSX engines #3380 + #3039? DPUs . He'll either take Wells Siding mp CG41.4 or Grand Junction siding mp CG54.

E800-E801 crew will take this train to Chicago overnight.

That was R597 releasing the EC-1 they had for the day. Empties will depart from West Olive when crew is called for the train. Should be some time before midnight to depart for Chicago.

07/10 at 18:45 - WB to SB in Plymouth, G719-06 was a loaded unit grain train out of Windsor, Ont. CP handed off the train to CSX at Rougemere.

CSX 345/CSX 817/CSX 3169 for power.

Is this a new thing? I don’t recall ever hearing something like this happening in the past.

It was new to me but I was told my a couple of people that CSX has run either loads to Rougemere to go thru the tunnel to Windsor or vice versa. Sometimes those moves happen right under our noses and they aren’t tracked, notes or reported. Seems plausible I suppose.

08:45, Y121 is backing into the Fremont Sub at East Leg Wye, Holland, with their caboose, 1 lumber load, 3 covered hoppers, 3 boxcars, and CSXT 6045. They’re coming your way, Tlout! The lumber load is probably for De Leewu. I wonder where the covered hoppers are heading?

Note: Y121 brought the covered hoppers to the Endeavor Ag facility in North Haarlem on the Fremont Sub. I don’t get up there very often, but these are the first cars I’ve seen at this facility in a couple years.

L301-12 @ 10:36 had their Job Briefing with RN Dispatcher in Grand Rapids, MI: CSX #4070 + CSX #6412 with 9 cars (5 loads and 4 empties) @ 745 tons and 648 ft long. He’s headed to Buzzi Cement mp CG5.3. Later he’ll go westward to Hartford mp CG68.7 & Sawyer mp CG105.2
