Turkey earthquake - tracks shifted

Saw the following pic of how much the tracks shifted in Turkey after the earthquakes there. Saying they moved approx 3 meters and caused this buckle:

That's pretty severe. Might be some Napoleon Defiance and Western track workers who don't see what the big deal is though. EMD radial truck test bed.

In seriousness, it will be a long, long, long while before any sense of normalcy or peace settles in for those poor people. They need every resource available to them - mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. I hope they find it...

Without a broken rail, would the signals not show a Stop or Restricting?

Do railroads have Earthquake detection systems of any sort which automatically change signals to stop indications if an Earthquake is detected? To me this would make sense in areas like California where severe Earthquakes are more common.

Caltrans uses USGS data to to notify Metrolink’s PTC that a quake has been detected. Japan uses sensors onboard the highspeed trains to stop them. Getting US railroads to spend more money on this type of system, good luck.

AFAIK both UP and BNSF have their systems tied into USGS or whoever to monitor for quakes.
