Love the F40! I wonder where they are sourcing the F40 bodies for this program?

VIA has said their F40PH-2s, which were rebuilt in the 2007-2012 timeframe, had their life extended by 20 years. Well built, well maintained equipment can last a long time with good investment!

Speaking of Via, looks like they're starting to rebuild the F40s AGAIN. 40 planned so far.

Interesting! Now makes sense as the SC-42 Chargers are going into service relieving some of the assignments for the F40s (and the P42s). VIA has publicly said they intend to keep the F40s for several years to come despite planning to retire the younger P42s. It sounds like Chargers will hold down all Corridor runs, and rebuilt (again) F40s will power all longer distance assignments. It's great to see this continuing investment from VIA. Is there a link to the source for the statement that they will rebuild 40 of them?

They haven't made anything public but here's a solicitation for bids from late last year. https://www.merx.com/viarail/solicitati ... 0000261622

They've got a good thing going with these F40s so it makes sense to keep them around rather than gamble on mechanical issues with the GEs or Siemens units I'd think.
