Union Pacific’s SD59MX

Unread post by David Collins »

Union Pacific has these really funky looking widecab locomotives called SD59MX’s. The majority of them are in storage, and the remaining ones are used in California.

Information on these is pretty scarce, so I was wondering if anyone has any information as to why UP is the only railroad that has them, and the specs of the engines.

There were also SD30C-ECO's built for Canadian Pacific, These were all part of EMD's attempt to develop a re-build business. Costs of a rebuild vs. new were unfavorable.
