My son just sent me a text, saying that NS is leasing 30 SD70MAC locos, from Wells Fargo Leasing, that were ex BNSF locos. Why would NS have locos, sell or scrap locos, then have to LEASE locos.?? Not too bright.
You must be new here.

Well, maybe a little new, but at 64 years of age, some of this stuff just makes me wonder about how RR's are managed. Or, more like, an attempt at management.

Class 1 railroads are only reactive. They do not know how to be proactive.

Which is why, for the last 20 years, I have been WAY more interested in shortlines and regionals. DO not like, or care about the big mega railroads. The locos all look alike, and they all operate the same .

I spoke with an engineer about these lease units. He said they're terrible. Vibrations like the M-2's, old, decrepit and loud.

On a side note, I never knew Wells Fargo was in the locomotive leasing business.

Apparently, NS has bought back all of the M-2’s that they sold off at the beginning of the purge.

These units have been rushed into mainline service it appears, as none of them have NS logos on them. I doubt they’ll be touched until the rebuild program that NS is intending to do to the M-2s begins. Or, they may be sold again. Time will tell.

People have seen trains going to Roanoke and yards elsewhere with the former ProgressRail units on them en masse (some with as many as 8 at a time), they no longer say PRLX but don’t have NS logos. The first units have also started leading trains too.

It’s also not fully confirmed yet as not all of them are back on property yet. That’s why I put the apparently at the beginning of the post.
