Locomotive Tank Capacity

Unread post by train91 »

Sorry, asking here, because this is a smart bunch.

How many gallons do these Class I road engines carry. What are their fuel tank capacities. Varies by GE, EMD etc, so what would be some values? At $4.90/gal, a load of fuel is now much higher. What is the cost of a full load of fuel?

admin edit: moved this from the CSX update thread to a new topic.

Not sure what the current cost of off-road diesel is, but it's probably not cheap. Most big road engines hold 3,000-5,000 gallons, 4 axle engines generally hold 2,000-3,000 gallons.

Railroads (like airlines) negotiate fuel prices & futures and lock in a rate for a set time period.
