LEGIT CN HERITAGE UNITS!!!

Unread post by David Collins »

It appears CN has converted an ex GTW GP40 to GP40-3 specs and original green CN Paint as well as a slug of some sort... The 40-3 is Numbered 7400 and the slug is numbered 600.

CN 7600/600 are/were CN units, not GTW.

edit to add also 7601/601.

It seems I read that CN rebuilt a few of those GP40's (from a group of about 17) into 38-2 standards. One of them is on the Lake Shore IIRC.

It appears they're way off on the shade of green. They look closer to Illinois Terminal heritage colors than CN. Nothing like the shade of green/olive they had on the E-unit for the business train.

CN 8952, an SD70M-2, has just literally been given GT Blue paint and is scheduled to be moved out on A422.

CN SD70M-2 8952 in GTW Blue ?

Unread post by Man o' War »

Is this real ? Check out Trainorders Eastern discussion (10/10/20) - "GTW Lives SD70M-2 #8952"

If it's real - I wholeheartedly approve!

Well it sure looks real.
But since this is a CN locomotive, it should have the CN reporting mark added. A nit to pick for sure but pity the poor employee trying to locate GTW 8952.

These type of paint schemes qualify as trademark protection.
Is that a hint as to the real GTW blue/orange fleet longevity?

edit to add... I suppose the CN on the 25 year decal counts as the reporting mark. But I wonder if that will be good enough.

I'll need an AED. That is a nice looking paint scheme.

Lol right? I should’ve been more specific. Supposedly they have a list and are going to come out with numerous different heritage units.

They're crankin' em out folks. Finishing touches of BCRail and Illinois Central (both GE's) can be seen at Tims Railfan Group on Facebook. Also, pictures and drooling chatter at Grand Trunk Western Tracker. CN employee in Port Huron told me a dozen or so out in short order. Giving NS a run for their money...

That's a great and unexpected sight! Hope to catch it soon. Although, the GT lettering should be equal width throughout, the handrails should be white, and the blue should be darker. Sorry, someone has to be the first to nitpick!

The supposed list includes schemes from: ACR, BLE, BCOL, CN, CV, DTI, DMIR, DWP, EJE, IC, ICG, GBW, GMO, GTW, and WC. I haven't seen any mention of DTSL or NAR, but the above seems to cover most of CN's predecessors.

Darn, the D&TSL is the one I would want to see most. Granted it would look like the NS's NKP loco, but still I wanted to see it.
