Yes, it is the former CSXT 9998, one of the 4 F40PH’s of Amtrak origin that comprise the CSX executive fleet. It was just out shopped in an interpretation of B&O blue, black and gray with yellow stripes a la the EA at Baltimore and in use by the B&O into the 1950’s. I really like it, and it matches the scheme the CSX company passenger equipment is being painted into.

The only thing that I don’t like is where they put CSX1 on the cab side. It doesn’t look right for some reason.

Putting CSX1 on the number boards makes it an honorary Australian locomotive.

Would like to know how many standard cab SD-50's & SD-60's are still active? Also saw dash 9 #40 still in original paint on Q326-05. First saw this unit in Winchester Kentucky right after it came from GE hauling coal on the Corbin division.

All of the SD60s, SD60Ms and SD60Is were sold off in 2017/2018. They still have about a dozen SD50s, most of which are in storage.

FWIW CSXT 40 is an CW44AC, aka AC4400CW, which is the AC-traction version of the Dash-9, which is DC. They share the same engine, cooling, etc but have different electronics in the traction powertrain.

The original 173 was rebuilt…

I assume CW44AC units 1, 2, 3, and 4 will all be renumbered to accommodate the F40 renumbering from the 999x series. I wonder if lone wolf 9969 will also be renumbered?

Meanwhile, ES44DC 5409 on today’s D706 appears to be a recent repaint into the boxcar scheme. Maybe it’s already been noted here but the paint certainly looked fresh.

If CSX repainted their F40PH, are they planning to paint a new CSX scheme for their engines fleet or leave it currently? Think it’s time for a positive scheme for CSX to replace dark future for a brighter future. Any updates on rebuild engines lately on both GE and EMD ?
