There are now 17 units in YN3c as it's being called here. Current paint totals are 372 YN2, (12 EMD, 360 GE) 1,620 YN3 (as this scheme is rising upward again) 17 YN3c (which I am calling YN3w (website logo address units, 10 of which are 4500 series rebuild units) 1,479 YN3b (as the totals are now going downward, and 6 special paint units, 911,1776,3194 and 3 B&O inspired units for the executive train. 3,494 on roster total. CSX is showing 3,510 units as of Nov. 21st a descrepency of 16 units. 14 of these CSX still shows on roster because while they have been retired by the mechanic department which I don't, but are still showing on Umler.

Five recent retirements, all wreck damage units are 168,384,571,736 & 1185.

YN3c makes perfect sense to me. Not only does “C” come after “B”, it can also be C for “.com”.

When I saw it called YN3c here for the first time, I kind of liked that myself, but when you brought up "C" could stand for "com" I liked it even better. Thanks MAC!

BREAKING: CSX has bought back from 2 SD60M’s and 1 SD60I from LTEX: 8722, 8721 and 8733. The three aforementioned units were spotted in Birmingham, Alabama with the CSX YN3c paint job.

Don't get yourself out of joint David. First show me the picture. Second, despite what you may have read or seen, former CSX units 8721 & 8733 when retired by CSX several years ago were purchased by Progress Rail and moved for storage to Albertville Alabama. Two units, 8721 in YN3 and 8733 in YN3b were recently sold to the Alabama and Tennessee River Railroad and were seen moving to their new owner in transit. (with photo) 8722 still in YN3 paint was sold to LTEX a few years ago but have yet to hear of it being resold to a new owner. Regardless, under no circumstances are they returning to CSX. Beside this, 8721 is a straight SD60.

Basically the same picture I saw but in daylight and with other working power on the head end as CSX was transporting these units to their new owner. They were dozens up dozens upon dozens of retired CSX locomotives that were purchased by LTEX, GECX, or PRLS that never had any CSX marking painted out if they were never leased out and immediately went into storage at other locations. Only very small hardly noticeable stencils with the LTEX, PRLX or GECX names on them just for the temporary move.
Don't be fooled by this picture thinking they are coming back to CSX.

But why would they be selling locomotives when they’ve been pulling other out of storage (Dash 8’s and Dash 9’s)

Because the SD60s were retired. Some of the Dash 8s and Dash 9s were stored, not retired. That’s the difference. CSX no longer owns any 60s.

In case you are not aware David in the past six years, mostly between 2015-2019, CSX retired and disposed of nearly 600 locomotives in a very short time. C40-8 units 7500-7649, C40-8W units 7300-7396, All of their SD50 type units 8500-8643 except for the 14 units rebuilt to SD50-3 plus those that had been renumbered to the 2474-2499 group (ex Conraril, their entire fleet of SD60 Type units in the 8700-8790 group and all of their B40-8 units in the 5930-5979 series. Most everyone of these were practically running and working one day and retired the next. On top of all this, the GE Dash 8s & 9s, were pulled from service and stored until they need the use of them again.

Both painted at Waycross too. Sure good to have the paint shop there open full time again.
