SP 4449 Eviction?

Unread post by TrainWatcher »

Got this on my FB the other day:

From: Chris Fussell
Dear SP 4449 Facebookers,

SP 4449 has a formal eviction date of January 15, 2012. ORHF has purchased property across the street from the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry in SE Portland, and a new facility for Portland's three steam locomotives will soon be constructed.

More info and property maps at http://www.orhf.org

Thank you for all your support!
-Chris Fussell

Wonder why they are being moved? Anyone got more info? And what is it and all the Steam Programs having problems lately... I mean seriously!  :? :?

Here's the short version for those who don't follow preservation issues closely:
The 4449, along with SP&S 700, OR&N 197 (UP 3203) and a host of other historic equipment, all maintained by members of the Oregon Rail Historical Foundation, is kept at the former Southern Pacific roundhouse at Portland's Brooklyn Yard. UP currently has an intermodal facility at Brooklyn and plans to expand it, utilizing the land the roundhouse currently sits on. This, in-turn, is forcing a move to a new location, which, as James quote (...) was recently purchased.
