Re: Hamilton/Allegan Abandoned ROW Q&A

Amazing how before I saw this post, the old Sanborn map made finding the diamond easier and thus the ROW. I was able to trace it to almost the junction. Didn't Montieth Junction have a tower and flagstop at one point? Did that also include where it crossed the GR&I? As this map shows, there was not...

Re: Hamilton/Allegan Abandoned ROW Q&A

I also see zero trace of the Interurban ROW that was abandoned in the 20’s. Has anyone ever been able to detect the interurban grade anywhere between Martin and Allegan? Take a look here, I believe this is the grade. Monteith Jct would be in the field if they had left the tracks intact. https://www...

Re: Where/what is this railroad(East Terminal?)? Actual real question.

Even if the HOA owns the land, he may own the right of way. It would be kind of like your power company sells the lines and ROW across someone's land to another power company. The land owner can't suddenly insist the lines be removed or not used. If that is the case, the HOA's case will be much weak...

Agreed, it is the Columbus area. Video 6 gave it away. Here's the Google view. https://www.google.com/maps/@39.9899597 ... a=!3m1!1e3

How about east of the north end of the Dayton Airport?

Re: EJ&E Heritage Unit

So where did this branch go off to on the northeast side of Niles? Looks like it may have crossed the existing line, but I see no evidence of a ROW beyond it to the northwest. niles.jpg If you look closely, it appears to have curved to the southwest and joined what is now the AML. So it connected i...

Re: EJ&E Heritage Unit

Just for info, back by the silos is where the Jackson to Niles line crossed. Just east of Three Rivers was where they diverted to Elkhart later. So where did this branch go off to on the northeast side of Niles? Looks like it may have crossed the existing line, but I see no evidence of a ROW beyond...

Re: New Signal Installation Below Blue Water Bridge?

Some sort of construction work on the bridge that would require stop signals for rail activity? Or possible debris falling from the bridge?

Re: GDLK Operations

The mill in Otsego seems to exchange between 3 and 5 boxcars almost every day. There are usually a fair number of boxcars on the Kalamazoo to Grand Rapids line as well. Maybe some from the MQT? I believe I saw an MQT boxcar on at least 1 occasion.

Re: how i see mile makers

You have to know where the start point is for the mile posts. Often railroad structures beside the tracks will have a sign. If someone here has that particular line on their ATCS display, maybe they can help. Perhaps your railroad police friends can tell you as well. From your earlier post they seem...

Ray, are you asking what the symbols mean, or something else? Are you looking at an ATCS display? Some clarification would be helpful.

Re: New here

Hi Ray If you have a visual impairment, I presume you are using a screen reader. I believe the RadioReference.com site should be compatible with the screen reader. They have a lot of frequencies including most railroad frequencies. My only complaint is that they sometimes don't take frequencies off ...

Re: GDLK Operations

There is also a line relocation in Kalamazoo in the works if plans are to follow thru. That would be the removal of the GR&I diamond and moving all traffic over to the line at BO and reconecting somewhere north of BO. With the paper mill expansion at the old Checker Motors site, that would probably...

Re: Michigan Rail Business news

Michigan Shore has a new customer in Muskegon loading some sort of ash into gondolas. I have heard this will generate anywhere from 4,000 to 8,000 car loads per year, but I guess that remains to be seen. That would be a lot of ash. Does anyone know the source? The only possible sources I can think ...

Re: Radio Frequncies

I see that the emission designator of: 4K00F1W, has been added to all of the transmitter sites. This gives CSXT a green light to implement Kenwood's Nexedge digital data/voice technology at all locations that this (and other FCC grants) license covers. When this technology is implemented, it will b...
