Re: Conrail Shared Assets Trackage

What is the point of CR shared assets? Is it just a zone where they couldn’t evenly divide up trackage between NS and CSX? Or more of a customer idea? The way I understood it was there was 3 areas CSX and NS couldn’t agree how to divide these areas so nobody would have an unfair competitive advanta...

You’re not going to see many.
And the majority of the ones you do see won’t be super interesting. It’s a lot of auto racks and intermodal on CSX.

Re: Carleton, MI

If IORY is going into Flat Rock, they typically reach the yard about 10am and depart sometime in the afternoon. I’ve seen them leave as late as 5pm. Haven’t been able to nail down a schedule so I would guess it’s an as needed thing.

I don’t think Woodhaven stamping will ever see rail service again. That place is barely open as it is these days.

Re: CN Dearborn Sub

So after confirming with some reliable sources, its happening. I'm not surprised the maintainers don't know anything because the boots on the ground guys are usually the last to know anything, unfortunately. The Dearborn Sub will be upgraded to 40 mph with CTC, PTC, and CWR. This is for new intermo...

This could explain why there’s been a bunch of empty well cars being stored in Flat Rock for close to 2 years.

Would they have to take down the arches because of the height of the containers?
If autoracks fit there should be no reason double stacked containers wouldn’t be able to.

Re: Delray,

Dearborn Steel changes origins and routes periodically it seems. They used to get coke from Mingo Jct. then W&LE to CSX (Willard) or CN (Toledo). NS had it for a while. It’s difficult for a railfan to keep track of unless they have connections 😉 I haven’t seen a coke train in Flat Rock in at least ...

Re: Delray,

CN is (or was) getting two coke trains. 1. A shuttle to Rouge Steel (hard to believe CN would take something this short a distance) 2. Another one that went to a mill in IN or East Chicago. Do Coke trains still come off Zug Island onto the Boat Yard Line? In the past these have been handled by both...

Trenton 3? Does that go through Delray?
I don’t see why it wouldn’t but I don’t know enough about CSA operations to confirm that. I’m just making an educated guess based on where it originates.

Let me ask this because I see it a lot in New Boston. What does G/R/R mean? About half the time when I drive by one track will be G/R/R and the other will be R/R/R.

They have unloaded the pipe in Cohoctah and most recently Owosso. It may be for the I275 project.

Yes, Trenton no longer receives coal, the last train to show up there was earlier this year. I think Late April or early May.

A friend who hauled those containers for a few months told me that they go to the Republic facility in Carleton.
Thank you. Does he have any idea where they come from? My guess is Massachusetts.

The geeps from BNSF are being used to repay back horsepower hours. CN arranged to use the four-axle power. CN purchased some geeps. They are numbered in the 4900 series. A few of the 4600 series GP9Rs are still in service but are rumored to be retired soon. They seem to be used mostly in Wisconsin ...

Re: Holly Sub Train Symbols

Chip, the one you saw going from Woodhaven toward Dearborn on the Dearborn Line is a shuttle train between the coke plant (Ecorse or Zug Island) and the steel mill in Dearborn. It's surprising CN would handle such a short run. It’s also surprising they would use a single 6-axle loco on that line wh...
