Re: Baraga/ L'Anse
All the business is in L"Anse. Logs are loaded at two different locations, the powerplant gets scrap ties, and CertainTeed receives cars. The crew takes the power to Baraga to tie up across U.S.-41 from the hotel where they stay. They run out one day and back the next, all week long. Track speed is ...

The eastern counterpart of LU75 was SA74 originally and later TL74.
ML18 was the eastern counterpart of MP17. The "bomb train" also ran via Baldwin until it was later switched south from Saginaw.

C&o had a propane dealer and Penn-Dixie Cement in Petoskey. Big Rock Point nuclear power plant provided an occasional car. D&M had the Pampers plant in Cheboygan and U.S Steel limestone plant in Rogers City. Also a dynamite plant for their south(in Hawks?). AA had the Yuma sand plant, with plenty of ...

Re: C&O Pere Marquette & Seymour
The station was just a three sided metal shed, open to trackside, with a small parking lot on the other side. I presume the Idea was for passengers on the southeast side of town to not have to motor over to Wyoming yard. It was located on the east side of Kzoo Ave and on the south side of the track.

Re: CN Ore Sub Operations Update
Taconite pellets are very slippery. They look like ball bearings and act like them. On dirt they are not bad, but on ties or another hard surface like the ore dock they are very slippery. I was up there once with a motor car trip. No sign of any new engine shed at Euclid Yard. I think they return to...

Re: CN Ore Sub Operations Update
Besides Essar Steel in the Soo, the other major customer for Marquette pellets is Rouge Steel in Detroit. An average of a boatload a day leaves Marquette for the Rouge.
Yes, there are different types of pellets.

Re: CN Ore Sub Operations Update
There is one all-rail move per day of pellets from the mines to Essar Steel in Soo, Ontario, of 50 cars. The bulk of the pellets go from the Presque Isle ore dock in Marquette to the steel mill by lake freighter, usually the Michipicoten, making a round trip about every two days.

ELS at Wells has always been difficult to get in to. You can see plenty from public roads and parking lots on two sides of the property at Wells. Follpw sighns to the public boat ramp. Michigan hwy M-95 from north of Channing parallels much of the main line to Iron Mountain. U.S.-141 from just east ...

There was a lengthy article with photos about the towers in that neighborhood in the Grand Rapids Press several years ago, maybe when the Bridge St tower was still operating. Try researching it. About once per week to Gaylord, once in a while twice, or not at all. Usually arriving around 11:00a and gone an hour or so later. If you are in Grayling, check Four Mile Rd.(Four Mile Rd. exitI,first exit south of Grayling.) Go east one mile where they keep the power and switch Weyerhauser and GP. ...

CN ships many carloads of used ties on every train to L'Anse for burning in the power plant there. They have done it for several years now, shipping them in gons and hoppers.

C&O served at least one customer on the L&N, a factory or maybe a foundry about a half mile north of U.S. 10. I rode with the crew one time to spot a car there. Also , the Pandrol Jackson plant is just south of U.S. 10 near where the L&N joins the C&O.

To clarify my previous post, any day means Monday thru Friday. Your best bet is to go to Grayling where they likely switch everyday. Check Four Mile Rd. where they tie up next to Weyerhouser. Just east off the Four Mile Rd.exit south of town. Also check in town at the industrial park. They often swit...
