Re: Future of the Plymouth Sub/Grand Rapids Sub

What is fascinating is the fact, that other than Typhoon and SD80mac, none of you really have a clue as to what you are even talking about. You are all guessing and uneducated guessing at best.

Re: Plymouth & GR sub-div Work

From what I was told by a knowledgeable employee, a signal gang and new signals are being assembled and the work will begin fairly soon. Also was told that the COO or CEO...the new guy from Ford, was in GRP yesterday and wants to send more traffic this way. We shall see. CP-KCS and CSX agreements do...

Re: GRE Grand Rapids Eastern (Lowell)

Does anyone know when/if Dependable LP Gas in Lowell ever received shipments by rail? I can see that they had a little spur just East of Grand River Dr, and I've been curious about it. If you are talking about the one on the exGTW, they USED to do a lot of business with the railroad....easily as mu...

Re: CSX on the west side of Michigan

The Michigan Natural Storage/tracks back to the city market and Columbian Storage and Transfer were sold/transferred to CSX back in about 2000ish. The bridge just east of MNS was in need of repairs, NS didn't want to do it due to the fact they have no customers to service back there anymore, CSX do...

Re: Top 5 Michigan Rail Lines that should've been left in place

Two words come to mind...PROPERTY TAXES. Every line not owned by the government or a bankrupt company paid property taxes to every township, city and county along the way. THAT ALONE helped doom everything. A few lumber cars a month ain't gonna cover any of that, or a covered hopper of fertilizer or...

Re: Yellowstone - derailment into Yellowstone River

Not until New Years at the end of THIS YEAR. Notice the pier that the two sections of collapsed bridge were resting upon is GONE? Scoured by high water caused erosion under the piers...just my opinion...and later confirmed by engineering. "Scotty, tell me why the piers were scoured?"..."Captain, it ...

Re: What is the requirement of working on the rail road

Unionized and non union short lines do not ha=ve 60/30. It would be just like SS. Born around 53 the age is 66 and full retirement age goes up as the years go by. Class ones have a 60/30 agreement.

Re: What is the requirement of working on the rail road

The union contract for class one railroad retirement is at 60/30. Retire at 60 when you have 30 years in or 360 weeks. Shortlines that is not the case. If you REALLY REALLY wanna work for the 'railroad' DO IT. I started in 1977 with Chessie, quit cause these people are NUTS and went back in 78. Then...

Re: Arauco in Grayling

Come to think of it...I do remember more than a few covered chipboard loads for various customers. You can smell that Lincoln Log smell farther away! They are problematic to unload UNLESS you have an outdoor open track on both sides of the rail. Then again the way they load boxcars and the UNLOAD OT...
