Re: 354 stuck for eight hours in KAL
Generators at the transmitter sites is fine for the radios. Something I do not know, I'm sure some else does, would this outage affect grade crossings? If so, I can see why talking through signals would be risky. Just one car-train crash at a grade crossing and the lawyers would descend on that like...

Re: Indiana Northeastern Railroad to improve tracks in Branch County
I crossed at Quincy last week, and the MOW equipment was involved in some unidentified project. Not sure what, and I didn't have time to stop and stare. I would think the project should be nearing completion.

Re: Shortline Train Location Updates - June 2022
The Elk came up to the Plainwell-Otsego metro area, and switched Otsego. Looked like a crew change in Plainwell. Consist was all boxcars as usual. Hard to get a count since I was driving and there were trees, but I think 6 or 7 cars.

Re: Shortline Train Location Updates - June 2022
I know this is an egregiously late report, but GDLK must have run up from Kalamazoo to switch Otsego. At 6:07 PM I heard the horn and I believe I caught a glimpse of them at the N. Main crossing in Plainwell. I was headed west to the car doctor so I couldn't gather any more information.

Muskegon Abandonment
I can't say as I'm real surprised. According to the STB site MS and CSX have filed discontinuance and abandonment of the South Horn Spur on the south side of Muskegon Lake.

The contractor is Ameritrack. They are now working in the industrial area on the southwest side of Coldwater.

Re: Secretary of Transportation to visit LSRC 6/1/2022
If that is the case then it sounds like they are expecting to get some customers in the Lawrence area. That warehouse is to the East of the Teapot Dome closer to Paw Paw. Those tracks through there have been torn up for a while now. I am sure the residence on Lake Cora will be thrilled to have the ...

Re: Indiana Northeastern Railroad to improve tracks in Branch County
Today they were replacing ties in Quincy. Working both sides of main St. I didn't get a good look, but it seemed they might be totally replacing the passing/run-around track, IIRC the last run from Sturgis to Coldwater would have been in the late 90s or early 2000s. The MSO used to make that run. Th...

Re: Indiana Northeastern Railroad to improve tracks in Branch County
Yesterday the MOW equipment was all on the siding west of Clay St. That's just west of the old depot. There was a gaggle of guys in hardhats and yellow safety vests looking like they were getting ready to get to work. I'll try to get down that way tomorrow or Friday and see where they're working.

Ummm......doesn't the Michigan Shore RR count as a shortline switching in Waverly?? Also, since you’ve commented, when can we expect passenger service in Hamilton? I'm sure they are working on Hamilton to Holland express commuter service, and possibly a Hamilton to Hartford passenger run.

Looks like Hamilton Hartford Group is going to start a second shortline, The STB appears to have given the necessary approvals. It is 6.1 miles of the Hamilton Branch from MP12.9 to MP19.0. I'm guessing that is why the siding at (I believe) Fillmore Rd. was recently cleared.

Grand elk back south through Byron Center at 7:01pm. Wamx 4124, wamx 4125 and 35 cars. As of 8:15pm, no grand elk in Moline. No cars at Nutrien Ag Solutions in Moline either. GDLK was presumably picking up the Otsego boxcars when I left to walk the dogs at 8:45. At 9:01 they were blowing for M-89, ...

Re: Durand Rail Days Festival
Rail Days was way cooler 30 years ago from what I've seen. A shame we cannot have that anymore. The world ain’t the same as 30 years ago. How was it cooler back then? Maybe 30 years ago Grand Funk Railroad with Mark Farner put on a free show. That would have made it way cooler. 😎 Now that's an Amer...

GDLK south through Plainwell at 8:41PM. I don't think they stopped as there were no cars set out on the Otsego branch earlier.
