Re: Semaphores in Michigan
D on the number plate is DISTANT SIGNAL. means the next is an absolute or some such thing. Had to do with the major Amtrak/Baltimore Commuter wreck some years ago. The B&O had a setup where the commuter got an approach, stopped at the station, forgot he had an approach at the last signal and took of...

Re: Semaphores in Michigan
Other then I started in 77 and was train chasing WAYYY before that there were no semaphores out there on the lines either direction from Grand Rapids. There were semaphores WAY BACK in the 40's and maybe early 50's but they have been long long gone when I started with the C&O. There was a semaphore ...

Lots of CH's at the GRE, looks like a crew going on duty. Trackworks truck there, tamper and regulator on a yard track. Only 5 CH's at Brinks north of Ann, on the far north end of the yard at Turner, otherwise empty. GRE about to depart Ann St as of 7:50am, making a trip to Ada to drop off cars, ba...

Gas job to Alto came and went or should I say went and came? LARGE 327 called for 9PM. No D707 today either for some reason. No 334 and maybe a late this evening 335.

AAR Has it correct. Less weight per axle in the long run has less weight on the road at any given point. Throw in a three niner...thats three axles with a lift axle in the middle and a nine foot spread on the back two with a walking bean equalizer. Works well. Then do an 8 axle trailer with lifts. D...

I just read an article about the Salt Lake passenger operations and the great things going on with it there. Sun Rail also. Then again it will probably never briing in any amount of money that will cover the cost but so what? Do highways? Do airports? What does an ore carrier pay to go thru the lock...

Buy two used RDC's from Trinity Rail and run them back and forth to AZO from GRR to connect with those trains and there ya have it. I juts saved tens of millions of dollars. Pay me.

Re: Coast to Coast Rail Lines
As I suggested earlier, drive the 40 miles to Kazoo, get on the train there, get whisked at a decent speed on rebuilt tracks and go to Detroit. Frequent service, newly redone trackage and only a 40 mile drive to get to it. NO BRAINER.
That is if you really really need to ride on a train.

Not hot per se...at least I hope not. They just want 6 day service and are willing to foot the bill for it...so they get it. Lots of money per car, I have heard $7K per car in revenue but don't quote me on that cause thats a part of railroading I never got into. Prolly just sandhouse talk anyway. $7...
