Re: Engine Houses
Kanawha doesn't have any Columbus based crews or locomotives. When they run to Columbus the power stays at Watkins until they head back south. Only engine facilities they have are in West Virginia. The Zanesville & Western uses an old side rod GE 45 ton switcher. Should be sitting outside at Avondal...

Cincinnati Barge & Rail is where the gons are spotted. Wednesday they had 2 different cuts gons sitting down there to be loaded. They load pig iron here and over at the Port of Cincy on the Ditch Track of the CIND beside to old B&O Warehouse by Paul Brown Stadium. There's 2 different brokers that de...

The only thing railroads are required to do is make sure reporting marks and stuff aren't covered by graffiti.
NS is supposed to file to abandon different routes sometime. No one seems to know when.

Re: NS Peavine talk
In theory the tracks are fine for storage all the way to the Scioto River bridge at Vera minus the wash outs and grades. You need an occasional siding to give some flexibility when whatever in storage the owner wants back and you need to dig it out. The last siding is Radnor I think, but that's east...

Re: NS Peavine talk
No the CCET management made that claim. There hasn't been 9 customers on the line since probably the late 1990s when Ortner was still building cars at Mt Orab and the short stub of the Hillsboro branch to Mowerystown was still in place to the grain elevator. Its statements like that that show how bi...

Re: NS Peavine talk
The only filing by the CCET so far this year was a letter about the CP attempt to merge with NS. Rather funny letter claiming they serve 9 customers- none they actually name. Nevertheless at whatever point they do something one of us will catch it at the STB filings.

Camp Chase is Mon-Fri in the mornings. Go to Georgesville Rd by the Hollywood Casino to find them and what they might be doing. Kanawha will be based out of Hobson down by the Ohio River. Supposedly going to be Monday north to Columbus and Watkins and then return south on Tuesday. Repeat on Thurs-Fr...

Re: NS West Virginia Secondary-Columbus Oh to Alloy WV
The NS GP38-3 is 5810. They took 5 empty grain cars and 2 loads of potash out to Thurston on Saturday. They took 4 loads back to Watkins where the 5810 was left. There's no plans to have any crews based in Columbus. There's just not going to be enough traffic ever to justify. Milepost 7 is just east...

Re: The I&O former B&O Line Passenger Serice
I assume you mean the old B&O and now the Midland Sub. Back before Amtrak started up in 1971 here's what I think there was running right before then. B&O had #11 and #12 which were the Metropolitan. N&W had the Pocahontas pair they ran from Clare up to Oakley then to CUT. PC had the pair of Chicago ...

Re: NS Peavine talk
They were never intended for the CCET. The line they were intended for went to another company. 2807 has a traction motor that needs replaced so this one is getting some use. The replacement traction motor for 2807 is there so as soon as it gets replaced I would assume the SD45s will go into storage...

Re: NS Peavine talk
It's a former Montana Rail Link SD45-2 one of 3 that CCET's corp bought thinking they might get to be the designated operator of the line out of North Judson, Indiana which didn't happen. 2 more should show up eventually. The Evans property where the CCET locos sit along with the passenger car are n...

Re: NS Peavine talk
The only active signals on the west end were turned off last year by the I&O and either bagged or the heads turned. No idea other than it sounds like a rumor that doesn't make a lot of sense. At least on the east end we will all know if something is going to happen as NS has to file with the STB to ...

Last passenger train was the Pocahontas and ran up until Amtrak started in April of 1971. Powhatan Arrow stopped running in 1969.

Re: NS West Virginia Secondary-Columbus Oh to Alloy WV
Junk old GP35s I assume, 3901, 3902 and 3921. Looks like 2 of them got the Kanawha lettering and logo. SD45s look to be ex SP as they all look like they had the standard SP nose light package at some point 4211, 4212, 4213.
