Re: Detroit Railfanning
If you can't go to Detroit due to the crime you will never be able to go anywhere. Crime is everywhere, and some of the best places to see trains are in urban locations. Detroit, Toledo, Chicago... etc. All places with crime and all places with great railfanning locations. That's why we have to app...

Re: Railfanning Denver
The Brush sub is quite good when it comes to activity as well. I totally forgot. But it is not as scenic as the places I just mentioned. It is pretty flat as it heads east into Nebraska

Fuel pads and how often are they used
I want to ask some questions about the fuel pads on long distance routes such as our long distance CN Toronto to Chicago mainline or any fuel pads for that manner. I want to learn more about the effiency of these monster long trains that we see everyday. 1. How often are the fuel pads used in Battle...

Re: Detroit Railfanning
I mean if i truly want CSX and NS action I just go to Ohio. CSX in Deshler and North Baltimore and NS either west or east of Toledo. If I want CN I just go to Durand or Lansing. No need to go to Detroit.

Re: Proposed Chicago Logistics Hub
Thank you for this information. I remember seeing quite a few Q123s in the past. It was nice to get a stack train in the afternoon where the lighting was good compared to Z149 where it would run early in the morning at minimum.

Did Z149 also get cut to Toronto instead of Montreal?

Re: Durand 12-30-24
Really cuz I thought things were rather slow in 2024. In 2022 and 2023 it seemed like traffic was much busier. Well on the CN side. Unsure about the HESR and GLC. Tho the last two times I went to Durand I've seen a GLC grainer and a HESR grainer.

Re: Proposed Chicago Logistics Hub
It would be nice to get more intermodal traffic in Michigan since CN poured so much money into building a brand new tunnel in Port Huron back in 1995. Weirdly enough, CN does not have a single intermodal pair from Chicago to Toronto. Not a dedicated intermodal only maybe but there is at least one p...

Re: Proposed Chicago Logistics Hub
When I went to NW Indiana for a railfanning outing back in October, I took 94 home through Battle Creek and there was a huge accident involving a trucker of course. Highway was shutdown at exit 104 in BC and I counted at least 20 trucks in less than a mile backed up with both lanes. This is a common...

Re: Durand 12-30-24
Great Day!!! You hit it just right! When I was there on Saturday I only caught 8 trains between Durand and Flint from 9 am to 6 pm. After seeing all of the updates on RRfan and watching the Charlotte rail cam it looked to be a very very busy day up there. Very surprising for a Monday.

Re: Favorite railcam to watch
Although I’m a bit biased because I’m out there a few times a year to visit family (who lives just outside of town), Fort Madison is pretty good. The way that camera moves and captures the boat traffic and the trains crossing the river is so unique as well. Fort Madison is a very cool city. I visit...

Re: The Floridian - Amtrak's New (Temporary) Train
I still can't understand why there is not a direct train from Chicago to Florida, without heading east. Even an auto train like DC-Orlando. I feel like the amount of snow birds around MI, WI, IL, IN, etc would justify it. Maybe not though. Then again, with the changes made to services (or lack of) ...

Re: CSX/ NS unit grain trains on GLC
Fascinating stuff tbh. I saw a five unit GLC CSX system Grainer in Durand about three weeks with 90 cars. Was wondering why the CSX power didn't stay on GLC like it normally does for LSRC.

Princeton IN honesty is pretty solid. CSX runs 20-25 trains a day and NS ran 6-8 trains a day when I briefly visited there in 2021

Re: Trains in Grand Rapids
Better bring a book of magazine. You'll see nothing but track and that's it in Grand Rapids. Better off going to Ohio and Indiana to the ex B&O line. You'll see plenty of CSX there. You might even see some cool trains. CSX in Michigan is a pain in the butt

Re: CN Train Location Updates- December 2024
Figured because the train was definitely not doing faster than 35-40 when I shot him in Linden and I've seen them do 50-60.
