Re: Elon Musk wants to privatize Amtrak
If privatization does not work out, cutting and improving western long distance routes from daily to twice or 3x per week may a strategic first step. In Canada, VIA runs The Canadian 2x per week from Toronto to Vancouver with night and day service quality compared to Amtrak. This right here is bril...

Re: Elon Musk wants to privatize Amtrak
What makes me so disappointed with Amtrak is that they mismanaged a lot of their money and it went to regional areas like Amtrak Midwest and Amtrak California and etc. Long distance is what makes train travel so great and the small towns in the middle of nowhere can take serious advantage of it. Whe...

Re: Ann Arbor Railroad Trains
It is quite sad to see this railroad and the way it is. I lived on the old Annie for the first 7 years of my life just south of Dundee before my parents got a separation and my mom moved me and my brother to Livonia. I still went to my dads on the weekend and we would hear the Annie if the wind was ...

Re: FRA funds Trenton grade separation, Livernois & Kzoo studies
Although, I will say this, traffic on our roadways is getting more and more heavy with motorists and truckers. I can totally understand why they chose a state highway such as M-85. Not something I agree with it, but this is not 2012 anymore and times are changing quickly.

Wow 52 not bad at all for this time of year. I guess it just really depends on when they run them. That portion of the Chicago line has always been a very nocturnal line for years. Thank you for these counts. Much appreciated.

Re: Oak Harbor
This really right here is why I am losing interest in this hobby and really limiting myself on where I go look at trains. This happened to me a few times, one notable time was when I was railfanning the UP Triple Track in Nebraska at a rural grade crossing just east of Lexington NE. A family called ...

Re: NS Sandusky District question
This is a very unit train based line. Depending on how many coal and grain NS is running, I would say an average of 25-30 trains a day. Although, they seem to come in spurts tho. I have railfanned this line a few times in Marion, I think it has to be busier than 15-25.

Re: CN Train Location Updates - February 2025
Due to tariffs, we will no longer see M301 and M302 as they will be routed back on the Canadian route as CN does not want to pay the tax of running them through the states. Not getting political here, but I agree 100 percent with tariffs being imposed with Canada, Mexico and China

Re: FRA funds Trenton grade separation, Livernois & Kzoo studies
I wonder just how much of our taxes are going to this because people cannot read flashing red lights, gates coming down or hear a loud horn coming. This is so stupid. No I am not a foamer who enjoys the horns of trains, I just don't get why the government is trying to save stupid people constantly....

Re: FRA funds Trenton grade separation, Livernois & Kzoo studies
It's not about collisions, at least not mostly. Read through the thread again, curmudgeon. I live not far from Plymouth, on and off the train delays have gotten people on their nerves but at the end of the day, the railroad was there first and I argue it's more of a gridlock here than in downriver ...

Not sure why you would say that about a route that will never have Amtrak service? BTW, anyone know the current movement count on the former DT&I line to Flat Rock? Does seem...

Re: CN South Bend Sub Train Symbols On Certain Days
About 20 trains a day give or take use this line. Four intermodal trains use this line along with manifest, Auto Rack, occasional grain, and maybe a potash train as well. If you go into Indiana you also get the four daily Elkhart trains that are handed over to NS. Since you said MP 131 you should no...

Re: NS Fostoria District Traffic
I feel like NS has put all of their resources into the ex CR Chicago Line and will continue to run more and more trains that way. The few times I spent 10-12 hours on the NS Chicago line anywhere in Ohio in 2024 were the slowest I have ever seen the Chicago line. I would only get 15-20 trains in on...
