The A&B did indeed serve the fertilizer plant.
There was also a line of former-GTW cabooses stored on the line beyond the fertilizer plant for some time.

Re: What's Your Cylinder Count
I think I'm at 0. The only cylinder I can think of is in the air compressor I use for airbrushing, and I don't think that counts, does it? (I understand the fridge compressor was also ruled out.)

Re: ADBF Question
The line from Lenawee Jct. to Clinton was embargoed in March 1982. Conrail continued to run from Toledo up to Lenawee Junction until 1983 to interchange with the LCRC. It was sometime after that that the LCRC took over, but I can't remember if there was a period between CR and LCRC operation when th...

Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Definitive Thread
IHRC started operations at Defiance in late 1989, in November I believe. I worked as their first agent in the Defiance depot. I was hired at IHRC for this job in September, but the startup was delayed, and I was shuttled around the IHRC "empire" for a while, working at Connersville, IN and then at E...

Re: Scary coupling
Wonder how may rules he violated here. Probably none—considering this in Europe, and the rules are completely different here. This particular coupling was a little fast, but I can see a lower-speed version of this at my location station each day. It's simply how it is done. The shunter stands in th...

Re: SMRS
Commenting as one of the "3 high school kids" mentioned by the old guy at the beginning.... I wish SMRS would drop this "back story" they use that somehow we were some naïve model railroaders who through pure luck got the railroad. He says "they got the mortgage and thought they owned it". Nothing c...

Re: Former CR Clinton Branch Industries.
Let's see, starting from the north end, considering the 70s and later.... In Clinton, there was: Atlas elevator and feed mill Clinton Grain, which was located in the old freight house and received fertilizer The Clinton Engines factory had loading docks on the passing siding, but I'm not sure when t...

Re: Southern Michigan Railroad Society report
Are you sure it was IHRC 375? The roster shows only 371-373. Of interest, 371 was an ex-DT&I unit. It had been freshly painted when I started with IHRC in Sept. 1989. Powell Felix had me do the lettering on it at the Connersville shop. It was then sent north to Rochester, IN, and I don't know where ...

Re: Southern Michigan Railroad Society report
301 & 303 were bought by the state of Michigan for the Michigan Interstate I believe these units were owned by the Michigan Interstate, and not the State of Michigan. When Michigan Interstate withdrew from operating the Ann Arbor north of Osmer, the state-owned GP-35's had to go back north (after s...

Southern Michigan Railroad--the Raisin Center diamonds
This has been an interesting discussion. As a founding member and general manager of the SMRS from 1982 to 1988, perhaps I can add some historical background to the “diamond problem”. I'll start by saying that at the time of my involvement with the SMRS, I had every reason to believe that the N&W re...
