Re: Consumers Energy West Olive.

Closing a perfectly good power plant, meeting the AQ standards, will hurt a lot of rail and power plant jobs, as well as rail service in WM. Wind does not do well on hot, windless days, when the demand is high. I suspect that the planners at Consumers have access to just a bit more info than we do,...

Re: 355/354 returning with P42's..?

I drive by Pontiac Station/Yard several times a day and haven't seen a "staged" engine nor the passenger set during the entire Covid schedule Currently it seems one is additionally staged at Pontiac as rescue power. There has been a charger staged next to the shed at the station a few times recentl...

Re: Former MMRR Boxcar

The car in the photo is the only one that got the "fancy" MMRR logo. It was painted up for a display for Transportation Week sometime in the late 80's early 90'. The display was set up on the siding at the former SuperFoods (IGA) warehouse on Patterson Ave on CSX. I don't remember all the details a...

Idiots use the r-o-w as a hiking trail all the way out to the 40 signal, crossing from one side to the other or right beside the tracks....it sure would be nice if that high-dollar fence MDOT has been putting up would get put up thru this area as well As for the comment about why psgrs couldn't get...

There was a guy on the Amtrak subreddit who was on that train and, among other things, was wondering why they wouldn't just let the people off the train & walk down the tracks to the station.

It was outside yesterday its now in black, what's the front piece it's still on there about 3 years ago it was gray as well Edit I believe it's a radiator up front instead of the rear It looks like a dynamic brake blister from a -2 EMD to me. Radiator sections don’t quite look like that and the rad...

24 auto racks. I never knew CN was missing out on that much traffic just because they didn't want to short haul it to Toledo.
65 total cars. That makes a nice view with the water in the background.

Meanwhile the Sand Train had 100 even.

Re: CSX Unit Steel Trains in MI

Yes, unless something has changed, some of the finishing work for AK steel (now Cleveland Cliffs) at the Rouge is closed. Rouge makes the pig iron in Furnace C and casts it into slabs, then a daily train of slabs goes south to Middletown. I think limited coils come back north, is the pickle or tand...

Re: GDLK Operations

You're welcome, Dowagiac. Probably just current power needs on both the different lines, and closest availability is what directed 4002 back to GDLK. Only about half of the original start up units still remain on GDLK. They used to have 2 more ex Canadian widecabs, the 4012 and 4020. 4020 had a Gra...

Re: GDLK Operations

It was originally a Grand Elk unit from start up, got sent off for a rebuild and when released was reassigned to the D&EI. At that point it received the logo sticker, and some time later left that property to return to GDLK. Thank you very much for the info. That’s pretty interesting, I wonder what...

Last time I checked, you don't get holiday pay on locals or road trains. Only yard jobs.
Well that’s rough. Do they give anything extra for working a holiday at all?
Nope. It's just another day on the railroad!
How bout that.

Re: 110mph for Kzoo-Albion, restoring another Wolverine round trip

I thought ITCS was intended as an overlay. The current signaling system remained and if ITCS was down the current signal system rules would apply. The point of ITCS back then was to get higher speeds without having to upgrade the current signal system and using expensive physical upgrades. Yes, non...
