Re: New Hudson wye
Was it on a grade or anything? Looks like wyes that were out in to turn helpers in steam days. There was one outside Bainbridge, IN that was used to turn helpers coming into town on the NB grade. Footprint still visible on google earth.

Re: Gap in a rail
It's ok to stand there and take a photo of a broken rail, but woe unto the person taking formal photos on the tracks. That will get the ire of the rail fan community, even if there isn't a train in miles...

Re: GLC 393 - Repaint w/ New Livery
It's terrible. As someone said, looks like they ran out of paint. Or looks like a bad paint scheme a model railroader would come up with.

Re: NS to be Taken Over by CP?
CP share price up rather nicely again today, up about 14 bucks a share the last three trading days. Someone LIKES the fact that the NS albatross is staying around someone elses neck instead of theirs. That or they know CP has a lot of liquid cash laying around, and they'll push for a stock buy back...

Re: NS to be Taken Over by CP?
Also, I don't see Ackman posting he's done with NS, just CP. he's probably still lurking out there, counting his votes, and laying in wait.

Re: NS to be Taken Over by CP?
NS better get results for their shareholders, and quick, or there is going to be a call for a major turnover at the top. With the business NS is running off, or flat out losing to CSX, there are going to be some very unhappy shareholders wondering "what if". Those would be the one that care about t...

Re: Coal Trains Going BYE BYE in Michigan
Fly ash can have a lot of bad stuff in it too. I'm sure the atmosphere and plant life can absorb a lot if the CO2. Turn it into Carbon, the building block for just about everything you can physically touch, and O2. There is a healthy balance to be had, but unfortunately the scale is tipped so far aw...

Re: Coal Trains Going BYE BYE in Michigan
I live about 3 miles west of a coal plant. New gas plant going up next door to it. Coal was mined about 80 miles south of the plant, and shipped by rail. That said, the previous owners of my house did more environmental damage dumping their garbage in the yard then that power plant does. There is pl...

Re: Coal Trains Going BYE BYE in Michigan
The truth is more people are living longer, healthier and better lives than ever. And economical fossil fuels, including clean low-sulfur coal, are a key factor to that. I'll just leave this here: http://static.boredpanda.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/china-bad-pollution-climate-change-7__880...

Re: NS to be Taken Over by CP?
I'm thinking the CP/NS takeover is dead. Tonight on the Nightly Business Report, they said the Pentagon opposed the plan, saying it would hurt our defense. They didn't go into details. Just said the Pentagon opposed the takeover, for security reasons. OK, I just went and replayed the show on the ne...

Re: Extremely PO'd people for stopped CSX trains at Joy Road
From an economic standpoint, why would CP buy the Pere Marquette route when they have trackage rights on NS/Wabash? It's a shorter route and they don't have to maintain it. It's kinda wishful thinking to believe that route will ever be another corporation's mainline. Shortline perhaps should CSX de...

Re: Extremely PO'd people for stopped CSX trains at Joy Road
As I said in the shout box, while the Peavine guys get a bad wrap for their pie in the sky dreams, it seems the PM follows have just as rabid a following, with just as big dilusions of grandure.

Re: Extremely PO'd people for stopped CSX trains at Joy Road
Here's the problem with your "plan". This stuff isn't terminal specific, it's basic working rules. Stuff you have no knowledge about, and have failed to consider. Of course, I'm probably just being a "rail Barron". Wasn't going to pick it apart, but since pops came to bat, here we go. If your son is...

Re: Extremely PO'd people for stopped CSX trains at Joy Road
I generally find this website to be informational and, at times, entertaining. Then, sometimes I come across a thread that some believe themselves to be railroad barrons, and not willing to listen to other peoples thoughts and ideas, or without at least some level of attack. The railroad industry i...

Re: Extremely PO'd people for stopped CSX trains at Joy Road
Sounds easy on paper. Is going west of the diamond in the crew districts advertised limits? If not, they are due a penalty claim, and someone in GR is due one too. Are the crews qualified to make the move. Are all the crews qualified to make the move? So much more to this then what is being put down.

Re: Extremely PO'd people for stopped CSX trains at Joy Road
Your post is so full on contradictions. I wish I had a keyboard and time to point them out. 326/337/334/335 grew because of that additional overhead traffic, which is what caused the operational headaches. You advocate running that additional traffic, which caused the problems, as a solution to the ...

Re: Extremely PO'd people for stopped CSX trains at Joy Road
The sooner you guys accept that without some big traffic boom in west/central Michigan, CSX nor NS, cares how fast stuff moves across the state, the better off you'll be. Move Chicago-Detroit traffic via Toledo and leave just local traffic for the former PM. Already funneling traffic from other poin...

Re: K930 and K931
I have my own theories as to why GR east is so unprofitable and problematic. Do you have any data to back up your assertion that GR East End is unprofitable? Let see: two and three crews to move trains a couple hundred miles. Meanwhile trains are moving 200 to 300 miles elsewhere with 1 crew. Tonna...

Re: K930 and K931
Let's see, focus running the Plymouth sub with its high operating costs, or focus on business that makes money with lower costs. Seeing as CSX just became Honda's carrier of choice east of the Mississippi (as in nothing will go on NS now), and they won a good chunk of Toyota business, it's not tough...
