Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Definitive Thread
I did a complete rewrite on the Wikipedia entry for NDW (not the Wiki associated with the forum, I don't have access to that yet). I read through all 83 pages here plus reviewed a lot of meeting minutes, etc. from the Ohio Rail Development Commission, news articles, press releases, etc. to get the h...

Re: Coe Rail/Michigan Air-Line Railway Wiki Page
"When Brown bought it I heard that he eventually made his money selling the line to the local governments for a trail." I'm pretty sure Brown purchased with the intent of selling it to become a rail/trail, not to keep it running as a railroad operation. At least that's what I recall of the discussio...

Re: King Milling Company: Feeding America for More Than 130 Years
From the article - "A $42 million expansion that is currently underway will add a new mill that will be devoted to hard wheat." That sounds like good news for more rail traffic since the article stated that all the hard wheat is shipped in by rail from the Midwest. I can't imagine they're making tha...

According to a recent post, over half their reservations are filled. "Following our recent news interview, we have gotten so much support from the public. We are just shy of being 50% booked for the season. Spots are filling up incredibly fast. " I would think this has a lot more potential in TC tha...

Go here: https://livingatlas.arcgis.com/topoexplorer/index.html Enter your location and then click on the map. At the bottom, you'll see the available topos for that area by year. Once you select one, it will appear on the left hand side with an option to download under the name. The downloads are T...

+1 for joining the Indiana Northeastern FB group. Some of the people who run the railroad are active participants and could answer any/all questions you might have about their operations.

If you haven't used the Historic Aerials web site: https://www.historicaerials.com/viewer it's often helpful at answering these questions. You can plug in an approximate or actual address and you'll be able to view any available Aerial and Topo maps for a location. The Topos tend not to be updated a...

Re: Shortline Train Location Updates April 2022
Got this alert from the Novi PD tonight around 5:15 pm.
"Alert: 10 Mile Rd is closed at the RR tracks, between Novi & Meadowbrook due to a disabled train"
There was a green signal SB at 9 Mile Road when I crossed around 6 pm and later around 9 pm.

Re: Plymouth is now busy again??
The way CSX and LSRC operates the Novi/ Wixom area has become interesting since CSX spun off north of 7 Mile (a few miles north of Plymouth). D735 (from Toledo) will run up to Lincoln Yard in Wixom during the evening and tie-down the train in the yard and park the power on their “engine track”. Z12...

The track in the crossings at M-5 are finally being removed. They're demoing the concrete on either side of the tracks too. It will probably take a week or so for all that work to be completed based on the current pace of construction.

SR: - A photo of a boxcar being loaded with parts for a kit house. I used to have the same assumption about Interurban freight. But in doing some research on this, I came across a story of a bank in downtown Ann Arbor being leveled by runaway freight cars on the Interurban line that ran through town...

Re: Meyer's Junction
SR - Houses were typically delivered to the closest location where a boxcar could be unloaded and then the future owner had to retrieve the parts, usually by truck. Although the standard rail lines didn't run through Farmington, the interurban lines did. I've seen references to the interurbans hauli...

Storm Damage - 9/11/2013
Detroit TV showed the crossing gates at 7 Mile and Northville Rd on the CSX as having been damaged by the winds that blew through Northville. The crossing was activated but with no train present.
