Re: GLC Train Location Updates - July 2023
I was in Cadillac yesterday around noon. There was a group of half a dozen people and vehicles at the north end of Tufford yard. It looked like a meeting. The is also a pile of rail nearby that I had not seen before.
Does anyone know of plans for changes to the yard?

Re: FRA inspection trains in MI
The US railroad network is approximately 140,000 miles. To cover all the track would require traveling over 500 miles per day assuming 5 days per week and 50 weeks a year. It is not likely that kind of rate is sustainable. At 100 miles per day 25000 miles per year is covered. Class 1 railroads have ...

Where and when did you see these locomotives?David Collins wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2023 1:30 pmDidn’t catch the railroad name but there’s a trio of G&W painted SD40-2’s heading toward Grand Rapids. I’m uneducated with Grand Rapids area shortlines and the whole area so I apologize for how vague this is.

The highway bridge that was adjacent to the railroad bridge was abandoned due to scouring of the piers. The highway bridge was recently demolished.

Re: Train Stations of the North Holly Sub
Given the short distance to Holly, I suspect the Ratalee stop was, as you suggest, a part time flag stop and not a formal station.

Re: Diamond in Grand Rapids
There was (is) a diamond on the American Seating plant property for the Pere Marquette to service the plants. Here are links to two Sanborn Insurance Maps from 1913 that show the trackage in the area. Map 485 shows the diamond east of the PM/PRR tracks that ran North through that part of town. Map 4...

In a recent video by AANscaleRunner a half dozen or so cement cars went north to Elmira. It also appeared several empty cement cars were used as spacers between the plastic pellet loads. This past Tuesday I noticed a cut of cement hoppers on the pass at Walton Jct. I did not count how many or check...

I am attending the PRRTHS meeting. I had the photo open on my phone trying to locate the site. A Pennsylvania resident sitting next to me told me the answer.

Re: Louisiana Pacific in Sagola MI
LP Sagola completed a large plant retooling to produce siding and trim products. The switch to siding changed the customer destinations the plant ships to. Some lumber distribution centers prefer one type of car over the other. In addition some siding products are manufactured in lengths that are no...
