Re: Amtrak Train Location Update/Heads Up Thread 2024
I noted today that #365 had a P42, #60 IIRC, on the rear. Gotta love the 25+ year old battle wagons backing up 5 year old power

Approaching Fowlerville, as seen from I-96. Just enough light left to notice them.

The bridge is still required to opened upon request throughout the winter, with 24-hour advance notice to the railroad.

That date stenciled is the last date it was inspected per the waiver, which is typically required every two years.

Re: Unusual Woodchip Hopper Numbers
The FRA accepts applications on restricted service for cars over 50 years old. Based on the car type and service, they will issue waivers with specific requirements to the car owner to continue to use them. One of the standard requirements is the “R”, usually accompanied with “-age”. Typically they ...

Looks a lot like the posts often used to mount electric boxes. More permanent and sturdy than a wooden post.

Re: GLC Active locomotives
Is this RR ever going to fix their loco issues, or lease/buy something, as this seems to be a recurring problem with these guys?? They don’t seem to have a super high out of service rate to me, especially considering the age of some of their locomotives. Things break, so long as they have enough to...

I'm not surprised the maintainers don't know anything because the boots on the ground guys are usually the last to know anything, unfortunately. I have to agree unfortunately, especially since projects usually do not cross between departments, and keep in mind the maintenance is separate from const...

Re: Amtrak Train Location Update/Heads Up Thread 2023
354 was 4 hours late into Pontiac. It seems the delay was west of New Buffalo. And this morning 351 has not left pontiac yet, 45 minutes late already and counting. Train 354 struck and killed a pedestrian in Michigan City. At 11:55 CT, eastbound train empties for Decatur are crossing Trail Creek in...

Re: ATCS done on the NS NW Indiana
Darn, saw the hole on the board the other day and just assumed it was a temporary outage.
Everybody is switching away from ATCS to CTC-over-PTC to eliminate otherwise redundant equipment. I would expect most if not all ATCS to be gone within just a couple of years.

I spent a night in Deshler for about 22 hours in but we saw no trains use the NW Wye but some guy told me there that a couple months ago there was a coal train with BNSF power that used it does the NW Wye still see traffic? If not why don't they tear it out? If they tear it out, then they'll have t...

Re: Amtrak 355 accident-New Buffalo
We don't know why the ITCS display did not warn the engineer that the crossing was occupied. However, the accident still could have been avoided. According to press reports the tow truck driver and/or person with vehicle stuck on the track called 911 instead of the emergency number shown on the cro...
