There is a "future rail spur" on the plans along the south side of plant area.
There are a couple of culverts on the plan that could have led to a rail interruption (allowing the retention pond south of the plant to drain under the tracks to the Kalamazoo river).

Re: Railfanning in the Solar Eclipse
Based on my lack of success of getting any pictures of the eclipse (I could not get my camera to focus) trying to incorporate a train into the image would have been a major challenge. I saw a few "horror stories" about slow traffic on the way out of where they were for totality. I managed to avoid t...

Who was Botsford? It looks like GDLK is reverting to the older historic name for the site. You may find some of the answers that you are looking for in this thread. https://railroadfan.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=33349 Nope. The other thread and article confirm that the yard was originally named Bots...

Re: Railfanning in the Solar Eclipse
I will be in Sandusky. I considered Indianapolis but decided to go east instead of south to get into the path of totality. No rail fanning planned. Draw a line from Muncie to Evansville and pick your favorite spot. Then plan on a long trip home as everyone else that drove into the path of totality f...

Here is a short video of the test from February 25th. ULBjotb8434 This video was captured on the "Ideal Section" of the historic South Shore Line just west of MP 53. A short double track section of track was built using steel catenary supports to serve as a "ideal" pattern for the rest of the line. ...

Re: CSX Signal Question
Not sure if this is relevant but NS does use this signal aspect too on the chicagoline. R-R-Y on the Chicago Line is Restricting. As is R-Y on a two headed signal. Sure, NS uses the aspect - but not as "Slow Approach" (unless the yellow is flashing). A few years ago an Amtrak train entered Chicago ...

This site claimed to have technology in place to detect blocked crossings. http://ectrains.com/ The wording has been removed from their website: "Train location is not an easy task. We're doing it using every tool we can think of. That includes video, audio and RF. We've also developed our own senso...

I have seen both a R/R/Y and a R/Y/Y displayed at EE Brighton, I could've sworn the same at Howell however I am usually not on that side of the signal. I was going to suggest it depends on the occupancy but I don't see a correlation, L305 gets a R/R/Y into the siding at EE Brighton when they run ar...

Re: Amtrak 355 accident-New Buffalo
Making this situation even more baffling is that while Lakeside Road crosses both CSX and Amtrak lines, the two crossings are three miles apart -- the CSX crossing is adjacent to Lakeside's intersection with Red Arrow Highway, while the Amtrak crossing is much closer to US-12. Three miles is close ...

One doesn't need a passport to enter Canada. For Michigan residents, the EDL is still a legal document allowing travel to and from Canada. A Nexus card can also be used, as can other documents, including but not limited to a passport. Not everyone who could use such a service would be a Michigan re...

Re: Auburn Road signals in Utica being removed
The "exempt" signs remove the requirement for buses and hazmat to stop at the crossing. One might as well read the signs as "bump" unless a train appears. (in this case, miraculously appears since it is disconnected rail.)
