Re: CSX Train Location Updates - June 2021

There are at least 3 loaded coal hoppers that came up as lose cars on 326 the other day, so my guess is, in addition to a power swap, D801 will also grab those at Wyoming and possibly other Holland-bound cars for setoff.

Re: Amtrak Train Location Updates - 2021

Trains Magazine is reporting that Amtrak’s first delivery ALC-42 Charger #300 for long distance service is on the California Zephyr today heading east to Chicago. It will participate in a media event upon arrival (are other Heritage units gathering there for photos??) and then is expected to go east...

Re: Upper Peninsula Railroad Operations Thread

Micah, go to marinetraffic.com and you can use the interactive maps there to click on the port of Marquette and then click on “expected arrivals” to see what is scheduled. These are rough estimates given by the crews, best to check in frequently to see if there are changes. I don’t know anything abo...

Re: CSX Locomotive Roster News, Updates & Information Thread

I assume CW44AC units 1, 2, 3, and 4 will all be renumbered to accommodate the F40 renumbering from the 999x series. I wonder if lone wolf 9969 will also be renumbered? Meanwhile, ES44DC 5409 on today’s D706 appears to be a recent repaint into the boxcar scheme. Maybe it’s already been noted here bu...

Re: Amtrak Train Location Updates - 2021

I don’t know what typical load factors look like on the Pere Marquette at this moment of travel, but I saw P370 arrive and depart from Holland tonight with the typical 3 Superliners, and they opened all 3 doors and at least 40 passengers stepped off. Departed 14 minutes late this evening due to cong...

Re: CSX Train Location Updates - June 2021

07:55 D705 getting yarding instructions from Rouge Tower for Wyoming. Q327 approaching Waverly with a clear signal and lead loco problems limiting them to 20mph. Two engineers discussed the symptoms on the radio and one suggested the cab signals might be turned on on lead loco 594. Sure enough, when...

Re: Reefer customers in W. Mich.

Fresh Solutions in White Pigeon used to get ARMN reefers with potatoes but I haven't seen any action there in the last couple of years. I’m glad you mentioned Fresh Solution, GAP (hi, by the way!!). You can find Fresh Solutions potato products at Meijer and I always wonder if they arrive by rail. M...

08:45, D702 completed their pickup at Zeeland Lumber and heading east for Wyoming Yard, 2502 and 2349. I caught them at the milepost 19 intermediate signal. 📸 2 lumber empties and 10 loaded ash gons.

As of 09:55, D702 switching Zeeland.
Yesterday, D702 set off two centerbeams at Zeeland Lumber and brought this classic BN covered hopper to Vanden Bosch feed.

Re: CSX Unit Steel Trains in MI

Yes, unless something has changed, some of the finishing work for AK steel (now Cleveland Cliffs) at the Rouge is closed. Rouge makes the pig iron in Furnace C and casts it into slabs, then a daily train of slabs goes south to Middletown. I think limited coils come back north, is the pickle or tande...

Re: Hillsdale Indiana Northeastern working Memorial Weekend?

4216 is the GP30M. It is someone’s namesake, not telling who. A former C&O - CSXT unit, the last active 30M on the CSXT roster, retired around 1997. It’s 100% a parts source now and honestly there’s not much left beyond the frame. 2216 is a Topeka cab ex ATSF GP7u as noted. INER has an incredible ro...

Re: GTW 79054 caboose on move

I saw 79054 last summer, it looked pretty good then! Some of the boards over the windows have been removed, which looks a little funny up close but from a distance would look normal. They used to use it for the long northbound shove up to Arvco, do they still take it that far?
