Re: CSX Locomotive Roster News, Updates & Information Thread
YN2 leaders are pretty common on the ACSES-required lines on the Northeast (in New York on the Hudson Line east of the river, around NYC, and in Massachusetts and southern Maine), as several of the upper 400-series AC4400CW's (which are pretty much the only ACSES PTC-equipped road engines) are still...

Re: CSX Locomotive Roster News, Updates & Information Thread
Yes, and 7380 was a rebuilt former ACSES AC44CW, 480, so it is likely 7382 is another one from that ACSES AC44 number range. Do you know what happened to 7380? It still hasn't shown up as a leader yet on M426/M427 according to the B&A railcam log . I assume it's still under testing? EDIT: apparentl...

Re: CSX Locomotive Roster News, Updates & Information Thread
ACSES is the PTC system that the Northeast Corridor and the northeastern passenger railroads (MBTA, Metro-North, Amtrak NEC, NJT, SEPTA, etc.) use. It is more expensive but works at much higher speeds than the I-ETMS PTC that's used in the rest of the country (ACSES is good for 165mph, while I-ETMS ...

Re: Locomotive News
I thought the old C44-9W/AC4400CW cabs were isolated, and the new ones (which were designed for the Evolution locos that have isolated prime movers) were the ones that weren't

Re: Locomotive News
Curious what drives whether the original wide cab is kept or not. E.g. CSX, NS, CP, and CN replaced the original wide cabs on their C44-9W and AC4400CW rebuilds with new ones (which is quite noticeable as the front door moved to the other side). UP kept the original cabs on their AC4400CW and AC6000...

EPA publishes final rule to allow California locomotive emissions regulations to go into effect December 8th
From my understanding, this allows California to start imposing fees for using locomotives that aren't Tier 4 or zero-emission. https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2023/11/08/2023-24513/locomotives-and-locomotive-engines-preemption-of-state-and-local-regulations https://www.progressiverailroad...

Re: CSX Locomotive Roster News, Updates & Information Thread
Quick update on 1827: it's being rushed to an event that CSX is having and they didn't have enough time to finish the paint. Once the event is finished, the unit will get the rest of it's B&O colors. This makes no sense though. 1827 (previously 3059 with YN3b) has a full-effort, full gloss YN3c job...

Re: CSX B20-8 Questions
Didn't CSX get a bunch of B40-8's back via the Pan Am acquisition? They also said in their STB merger filings that they generally intend to keep Pan Am's 4-axle locomotive fleet.

Re: CSX Locomotive Roster News, Updates & Information Thread
Is there a list of CSX locomotives with ACSES PTC installed for operations over trackage owned by northeastern passenger railroads? I know CW44AC from roughly ~465-485 have them installed, along with some 6200-series GP40-2 and 8800-series SD40-2, but turns out SD40E3 #1712 also has ACSES and made a...

Re: CSX Locomotive Roster News, Updates & Information Thread
Perhaps a mistake, but maybe not, but 480 is showing as 7380, not 7280. Late to this, but there's a batch of CW44ACs from roughly 465-485 (don't remember the exact #'s) that are dual-equipped with ACSES PTC and have cutouts in the pilot to clear third rail. 480 is likely one of those, and likely wh...

Re: G&W Locomotive Roster News
Due to Clean Air Act violations, G&W entered into an agreement with the Justice Department to pay a $1.35 million fine and either upgrade or scrap 88 locomotives, which did not meet emissions requirements when rebuilt. The list of locomotives is in this trains.com article: https://www.trains.com/trn...
