Re: CSX Locomotive Roster News, Updates & Information Thread
WM Heritage Unit is out Good point. I did not realize it looked like the Texas Flag lol! I could’ve sworn in a CSX concept art there was going to be black on the top but either way I like this one! Also the marks the completion of the three main Chessie component heritage units! Now where is that E...

Re: CSX Pullman, MI Derailment, March 16, 1998.
Sorry for responding to this conversation very late but I’ve always wondered what happened at that curve after watching the Thornapple River Rail Series coal train chase video! Glad I was bored this morning and decided to research! And it’s nice to know there is a lot of history with this derailment...

Re: Metra buying battery-powered trainsets
As someone from Chicago, I’m not happy about this lol. But then again this should mean more variety on Metra in the future! However these carsets will supposedly operate on the Rock Island District Beverly Branch in the Blue Island, IL area. Ironically there was going to be a project on this same su...

Re: Joliet, IL
Joliet is and always is a major hotspot. I’ve been there a good handful of times and it does not disappoint! BNSF is the king due to the amount of intermodal (and occasional autorack) movements on the Chilli. The UP is pretty mid but I can guarantee at least one or two Intermodals (since that’s the ...

Very nice! Glad to see LSRC creating new business like always! Hopefully this means more locomotives will be bought in case of a traffic increase!

Re: Adventures of the Blaze!
Holy crap it’s been a while since I posted on this! Anyway, here’s a photo from September 30th, 2023 at Lake Cook Road (Deerfield), IL on the CPKC C&M Sub with 3 Unrebuilt CSX AC4400CWs on the point of CPKC potash train #647! The YN2 leader was a nice touch but the YN3C unit third was pretty cool as...

Re: A rant about the gen-z railfanning community
Another thing is that the younger generation always wants to stand close to or even on the tracks to get their "roster shots" and videos instead of standing at a safe distance from the tracks and using a zoom lens. Train crews don't like that. DSC_0723.JPG DSC_0286.JPG Yeah trespassing is a big dea...

Re: Railfanning on the CP Elgin Sub
Update: I might rename this in the near future to CPKC but I’m not to worried about it rn lol. But anyway, the Elgin Sub has recently had “some” traffic growth in the form of intermodal trains 180/181. These run between Bensenville yard in the Chicago and San Luis Potosi in Mexico (180) and the othe...

NS Forrest District
You may be asking yourself, what is this line? Well here’s the thing, it’s been abandoned. What’s left of it is Metra’s Southwest Service from Chicago to Manhattan, IL. Now for the history of this line: this is the former Wabash line (later N&W and NS) from Chicago which eventually connected to the ...

Re: Deshler vs. Fostoria - Which Is Busier?
In my opinion both are okay. The reason is because of the locations. For one thing, Deshler is very busy and a great hotspot but doesn’t really have a lot of places to eat around the area. Fostoria is excellent but you have to run back and forth between NS and CSX and granted I’m glad it’s a horn zo...

Re: CSX Locomotive Roster News, Updates & Information Thread
CSX putting heritage paint on an EMD? That’s funny. Why? It’s probably bc of the fact that all the current HUs are Gevos and they’re the most modern locomotives on the roster “alongside” the rebuilds. But then again since everyone knows pretty much all of the HUs we have so far are Gevos, CSX could...

CSX Katy Heritage Unit
When the supposed list of CSX Heritage Units we might see in the future was leaked, one of the possible units we could see was #1870 the “Katy”. C&O Runaway Train on December 17th, 1970
A few years ago (probably 2013) I read a Trains Magazine article by Frank H Dewey about a C&O runaway train in Michigan that occurred in 1970 when a switch job hit a car and the occupants in said car stole the train and the author and other employees had to come up with as many ideas as they could t...
