Re: Michigan Grades
Gratiot Hill at the Michigan Transit Museum (Former GTW Selfridge Spur) gets up to a 5 percent grade at one point (or so I've been told) and was at one time the steepest grade anywhere on the GTW. We've had a few times where rain or wet leaves create slippery conditions where even our motorcar equip...

DSR Catenary Vs. Q-Line Catenary
Hey everyone, just wondering what the difference is (if there is any) between the previous Detroit Department of Street railways catenary and the current Q-line catenary. Thanks!

Re: Locomotive News
I don’t see where it says CN is retiring any GP9’s in your post. The article you linked shows G&W is purchasing more dash 8’s and dash 9’s after they cheated the EPA but nothing about roster retirements.

Re: Tahquamenon River Boat / Toonerville Trolley final season????
Wife and I rode that about 4 or 5 years ago. Trolley wasn't much, but the boat ride was cool. Our tour saw bears when I rode it back in 2016, but they lured them close to the tracks with food. I only rode the trolley. There actually might be another tourist operation that opens up soon in the U.P.....

Re: Pending rail car retirements, high scrap rates tighten equipment market
What standards/qualifications does a car need to meet at 50 years old? I still see cars built in the 60's or old MOW equipment built in the 40's on Class 1's. IIRC a couple of CB&Q 40 foot boxcars lasted until a couple years ago in BNSF MOW service. Does the rule just prevent interchange between rai...

Re: Pontiac’s long forgotten GTW Through Baggage car
I have great news! My grandfather found his old negatives of the express boxcar and I have managed to digitize them. Here in all of its glory is GTW 11487 with end doors!

Re: 1930 reroute of the GTW Holly Subdivision
Could you imagine an electrified GTW running from Pontiac to Detroit? I wonder if any more plans were drawn up. When Trowbridge bridge was built it had 4 arches. Was it planned for one track to travel under each arch or was it two tracks in both of the middle two arches?

Sounds like there’s a midnight RoadRailer over the scanner.
Also heard NS B31(?) passed Wyandotte with 334 axels. No clue on direction.
Edit: Likely NS 331 to Bellevue

Setting Up a Website
Hey everyone, in case you didn't know I've been working on a passion project for quite a while called "The GTW Steam Archive" which tracks all remaining equipment from the GTW steam era (Post 1961) along with historic footnotes, photos, and more. I was wondering where I should start in order to lear...

Re: G&W EPA Settlement, 88 locomotives to be destroyed
I wonder what the definition of destroy will be. Does it mean a complete scrapping of the unit, or does it mean removal and destruction of all the power assemblies and electronics, while still leaving the shell of the unit available for preservation. This could be interesting for the ex-D&TSL 46, w...

Oxford MI Station moved to Almont MI?
Semi-recently I was researching the gravel pits of Oxford which included some old newspaper clippings in the Central Michigan University archives. While re-reading a screenshot I took, I realized the article stated that the station had been sold in 1956 to private owner and moved to Almont Michigan....

Re: G&W EPA Settlement, 88 locomotives to be destroyed
“According to the DOJ, the consent decree, which also requires G&W remove from service and permanently destroy 88 older locomotives that are not required to meet any EPA emission standards“ That’s an unbelievably stupid excuse to scrap older locomotives. If you want to punish the G&W by forcing them...

Just left Topgolf on the border of Auburn Hills and Lake Orion and unmistakably heard a locomotive horn. Is the local out of Pontiac working tonight? I’ve never heard them all the way out here before.

Oops, I made the mistake clumping the Saginaw Branch and Bay City Branch together which is where my confusion started. My bad.
