Dan Miller is great! Love listening to Lions game on the radio when I can’t watch.

Agreed. That was garbage, especially since it wasn’t reviewable.

i give enough $$$ to amazon for physical products, don’t want to give them extra subscription cash :) I try to buy elsewhere when possible as long as the price is similar.

watching on Prime. :-D

I’m actually amazed with the score of the lions/packers game at the moment

right, Streameast is what i’m watching right now. Sportsurge just has links to all of the streaming sites to connect to incase streameast doesn’t work.
@ David Collins « Thu 8:27:04 pm »
I personally use streameast
@ ~Z~ « Thu 8:23:21 pm »
advise using Ublock origin to keep the ads at bay, but excellent site to watch every major sport live.

Detroit Lions game only streaming on Amazon Prime Video...yeah, no thanks. Sportsurge.net for the win.

Thanks for giving me that tip this morning SD80MAC

Most towns on the GR Sub have no speed restrictions
@ SD80MAC « Thu 5:53:50 pm »
Andy24 wrote: I believe train speed thru towns are 25-30mph
that depends entirely on the town
@ Andy24 « Thu 5:36:06 pm »
There should be an empty coming out soon, not sure when. Tom is pretty good at monitoring trains
@ David Collins « Thu 5:34:55 pm »
Or would that be a middle of the night thing

Are there any coal trains leaving West Olive today?
@ Andy24 « Thu 5:34:39 pm »
Justin is right on the morning trains. I am able to get M327 before work
@ Andy24 « Thu 5:34:20 pm »

@ justin_gram « Thu 5:29:10 pm »
takes about 2 hrs to drive nonstop from porter to wyoming yard in GR, takes a nonstop freight about 3.5 hrs to do the same on a good day. Plenty of time to chase
@ justin_gram « Thu 5:24:12 pm »
trains slow down to 15 downtown St. Joe which helps any chase
@ justin_gram « Thu 5:23:29 pm »
weekday mornings are best, usually 371/327/326/301 and sometimes coal load/empty thrown in the mix too
@ David Collins « Thu 5:11:02 pm »
my plan is to sneak away (sorta) for 371 and 327 while everyone is asleep

If you want an early bird train, M327 usually departs around 6:30am on the GR Sub

Knowing the roads would be the most important...what shortcuts to take, how to get around the train so you’re not stuck waiting for it, etc.
@ J T « Thu 10:46:17 am »
David Collins wrote: Are trains on the Grand Rapids subdivision at all chaseable?
Depends on the direction of the train, the size of the train, the type of train, etc. Also depends on how frequently you want to photograph the train and how well you know the roads, not to mention how willing you are to exceed the speed limit.
@ Jetlink « Thu 10:23:09 am »
I would say you can chase trains on the GR subdivion. You just have to be strategic and/or plan your encounters farther apart. Also the scanner is very much your friend. And not an online scanner. A real hand held one.

chasing from say Saugatuck area down to Hartford isn’t the easiest, unless you hop on the highway or drive like JT :) Other sections you can get ahead of them easier. Not like chasing a 10-20mph shortline train, that’s for sure.
@ David Collins « Thu 9:52:19 am »
for the longest time some of my non-railfan friends thought chasing trains meant chasing them on foot for some reason 🗿
@ David Collins « Thu 9:51:48 am »

David Collins wrote: Are trains on the Grand Rapids subdivision at all chaseable?
that depends on if you’re chasing them on foot or if you’re in a vehicle if you’re on foot you’re SOL if you’re in a vehicle yeah I think you could.

i hear you on that one JT. Fell near the end of the season in track as I was tripped from behind when running during practice. Skid on the rough track surface, both knees and hands were bleeding bad. So not just the running joint pain, but skin skids too :)

did track in 6th/7th grade too, never have been a distance runner myself so I ran the 70 and 100m dashes
@ ~Z~ « Wed 9:30:15 am »
sort of. Ran track and field in 6th and 7th grade, 1/2 mile run was the main one I did. Then got into tennis in 8th grade and did that instead.
