i’ve seen that in town many times. I don’t know if I saw you. I may have it seems like I might have seen somebody taking photos by my house that was like 1 1/2 times taller than the normal human being lol

Truth …you know every night I can imagine he is sitting in front of his computer screen by himself in the dark and in his underwear swearing profusely and drinking Blatz beer combing the RailRoadFan website for grammatical errors.

Leving for the airport in a few minutes. JAX-HOU-ATL-MDW drive home today. Wake up early and go to the regional highschool bowling tournament with two of my daughters after that.

I have also seen J T taking photos by my place many years ago and I do believe that I have seen SD80MAC by my place however he was not taking photos he was working as a CSX conductor. Not only do I believe I may have seen him I believe I may have spoken to him.
If you are relatively new to the board you may not know that J T is what I consider to be an excellent rail photographer and if you would like to enjoy his photos I have provided a link below for your viewing pleasure.

hearing seems just as bad as normal, not any worse :) Could hear normal right after the concert too.

they also had some 6 axle versions which I believe were scrapped

A lot of them have been cut up. Indiana Harbor Belt kept a few of their 4 axle versions and turned them into slugs, paired with GP40-2 mothers

has started a new topic: Battery Electric locomotives
@ SD80MAC « Tue 2:05:54 pm »
if one of the 3 engines in a genset went down, suddenly you had a locomotive only operating at 66% of its already limited capacity. And that happened a lot
@ SD80MAC « Tue 2:04:46 pm »
Barr Yard had some of the bigger ones with dynamics. Rougemere had 4 of the smaller ones. Selkirk had some 6 axle versions they used on the hump. All of them were pretty gutless and you almost never saw one not paired up with a regular GP or SD
@ SD80MAC « Tue 2:03:01 pm »
the class ones only bought them because local governments were giving out $ to be used towards them. As soon as the stipulations were up, they tossed them quick. I think UP and BNSF were the last ones to use them. CP, NS, and CSX purged theirs all around 2016-2019
@ SD80MAC « Tue 2:01:47 pm »
The cummins engines used in most of them were not well-suited to the rigors of railroad service
@ SD80MAC « Tue 2:01:17 pm »
the genset concept is all but dead. having 3 separate diesel engines come on and offline in a single locomotive was too unnecessarily complicated
@ J T « Tue 1:47:17 pm »

I used to hear a lot about gensets 10-15 years ago, but I feel like that terms isn’t kicked around much anymore. Were those units just not very popular?
@ GRHC « Tue 12:16:57 pm »
UPY 2005 looks like an old ALCO Century 415. That is pretty cool and it’s better for the environment. a fact that I’m sure was not overlooked by Z lol
@ ~Z~ « Tue 11:59:19 am »
cowl seems even worse for switching than a high-hood geep.
The UPY 2005 switcher looks pretty neato: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2SAdhYSWDcE

This is true that’s why on the Virginia Park Terminal my HO scale model railroad I always pair up an F-3/7 with a GP-7/9

@ SD80MAC « Tue 11:33:41 am »
It’s not so much that, its just that cowls are not good units for most freight applications
@ AARR « Tue 11:29:02 am »
I like the F40ph. Probably my favorite passenger engine. A couple RR’s tried them in freight service but my understanding is to change the gear ratio was to costly to justify any economical benefit
@ SD80MAC « Tue 11:10:12 am »
it’s not unique to P42s
@ SD80MAC « Tue 11:10:05 am »
battlewagon is a nickname often given by foamers to older locomotives

I understand it fairly well. Could do it my self. Have done it myself. Still pay someone to do it for me. I hate it and I almost always get a refund.

I was self employed for 15 years, then had a few years with various 1099 income. I was so happy to go back to a simple tax return this year and not be super concerned with deductions.
