some non-railfan friends of mine took amtrak from holland to chicago today. Got on the empire builder this evening and are enroute to DC with a bedroom as accommodations. heading to NYC via train a few days later, then I think train back home.

Saw and shot different CSX trains east of GR today over the course of a few hours
@ ~Z~ « Fri 11:30:58 am »
okie sd80mac. guess what i’m saying is some radio communication sure would help tell when you guys are running or where you are. Shortline thread update would be awesome too. I’d like to head over and watch on some sunny evening they run. Last couple appears to have been thursdays.
@ SD80MAC « Fri 11:16:56 am »
I watched E800 go by from inside Waverly Yard, I was wondering how long it would take for us to be there while a CSX train went by
@ SD80MAC « Fri 11:16:15 am »
Good luck!

That was by shear luck, I was waiting for E800-29 to go by Holland & Hamilton Northwestern showed up :)

We use 61 when we are on our own rails

But otherwise no

the last time I ran I called out when we were entering the branch

Wiki says you guys are on CH61 - perhaps use that, and amtrak1007 can add it to the list scanned for shortlines? :)
@ ~Z~ « Fri 10:00:57 am »
do you at least call out any crossings or something to that effect as you travel from Hamilton, alerting the railfan nerds out there of your progress?
@ SD80MAC « Fri 9:58:12 am »
The only reason we would need to contact the RN is if we were going to go onto the mainline
@ SD80MAC « Fri 9:57:41 am »
Nope, it’s all other-than-main track so we don’t need verbal permission. We do get CSX orders faxed to us for bulletins. We work on CH 08 when we are on CSX
@ ~Z~ « Fri 9:53:32 am »
SD80Mac - do you guys radio into CSX on CH35 to get permission onto trackage, or do any of your switching duties in waverly yard on CH08?
@ AARR « Fri 9:50:27 am »
Earlier this week it went several days with no posts. There have been a few posts lately but some of the regulars haven’t visited there recently. It’s ok, though. I appreciate the contributions of anyone interested.

I wouldn’t mind one that connected Spring Lake to downtown Muskegon though. Then you’d have a bike trail along the lakeshore from Saugatuck to Hart
@ ~Z~ « Thu 2:38:03 pm »
There’s already a decent trail between Holland and Spring Lake at least which goes along Lakeshore Drive.
@ AARR « Thu 2:33:49 pm »
They will use whatever the new trail is called following the CSX ROW from Muskegon to Holland

getting rid of the line along US31 would be great for MDOT one would think. Add more businesses in too.
@ SD80MAC « Thu 10:12:57 am »
The city of Grand Haven would likely contribute too. They’d love the railroad out of the middle of their town

it’s too bad there are basically zero customers between west olive and muskegon.
