PANTERA! Holy crap, I forgot how powerful they crank up the bass and bass drum, just made my chest vibrate. Pantera was awesome.

has started a new topic: Battery Electric locomotives
@ SD80MAC « Tue 2:05:54 pm »
if one of the 3 engines in a genset went down, suddenly you had a locomotive only operating at 66% of its already limited capacity. And that happened a lot
@ SD80MAC « Tue 2:04:46 pm »
Barr Yard had some of the bigger ones with dynamics. Rougemere had 4 of the smaller ones. Selkirk had some 6 axle versions they used on the hump. All of them were pretty gutless and you almost never saw one not paired up with a regular GP or SD
@ SD80MAC « Tue 2:03:01 pm »
the class ones only bought them because local governments were giving out $ to be used towards them. As soon as the stipulations were up, they tossed them quick. I think UP and BNSF were the last ones to use them. CP, NS, and CSX purged theirs all around 2016-2019
@ SD80MAC « Tue 2:01:47 pm »
The cummins engines used in most of them were not well-suited to the rigors of railroad service
@ SD80MAC « Tue 2:01:17 pm »
the genset concept is all but dead. having 3 separate diesel engines come on and offline in a single locomotive was too unnecessarily complicated
@ J T « Tue 1:47:17 pm »

I used to hear a lot about gensets 10-15 years ago, but I feel like that terms isn’t kicked around much anymore. Were those units just not very popular?
@ GRHC « Tue 12:16:57 pm »
UPY 2005 looks like an old ALCO Century 415. That is pretty cool and it’s better for the environment. a fact that I’m sure was not overlooked by Z lol
@ ~Z~ « Tue 11:59:19 am »
cowl seems even worse for switching than a high-hood geep.
The UPY 2005 switcher looks pretty neato: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2SAdhYSWDcE

This is true that’s why on the Virginia Park Terminal my HO scale model railroad I always pair up an F-3/7 with a GP-7/9

It’s not so much that, its just that cowls are not good units for most freight applications
@ AARR « Tue 11:29:02 am »
I like the F40ph. Probably my favorite passenger engine. A couple RR’s tried them in freight service but my understanding is to change the gear ratio was to costly to justify any economical benefit
@ SD80MAC « Tue 11:10:12 am »
it’s not unique to P42s
@ SD80MAC « Tue 11:10:05 am »
battlewagon is a nickname often given by foamers to older locomotives

I understand it fairly well. Could do it my self. Have done it myself. Still pay someone to do it for me. I hate it and I almost always get a refund.
@ sparrow24 « Tue 9:51:39 am »
I was self employed for 15 years, then had a few years with various 1099 income. I was so happy to go back to a simple tax return this year and not be super concerned with deductions.

last year lotsa med bills but covered almost all by insurance. get additional state deduction for it though. but I’d rather have life as it used to be.

fed tax refund in account tomorrow. got to itemize couple years back due to dental work.
@ GRHC « Tue 7:42:26 am »
I never get a refund I always have to pay in which really makes it suck.
@ GRHC « Tue 7:40:53 am »
It’s not fun it’s tedious and it sucks and I dread doing it every year and put it off as long as I can. It’s also the day I find out exactly how much money I made or didn’t make last year lol
@ ~Z~ « Tue 7:39:33 am »
Sounds less than fun. I’ve not qualified for itemized deductions at any point yet, always just the standard deduction, so donation/medical receipts haven’t been needed. Plus the standard went up a ton recently so less qualify.
@ GRHC « Tue 7:09:07 am »
Tax prep day for me I have taken all my receipts out of my shoebox sorted them out and today I add up the numbers and give them to the accountant

my bro is going with - he hasn’t been to a real concert he says since seeing Pantera in the 90’s. I dunno why he hasn’t been to more, tried numerous times to have him join me but hadn’t, so hopefully he’ll enjoy tomorrow. 2 other friends coming with too and sis-in-law.
@ ~Z~ « Mon 8:36:17 pm »
Lamb of God is next up, then Pantera. I’ve heard some lamb of god in the past, but couldn’t remember why I didn’t listen to them more. Listened to a few of their tracks that are in the setlist for tomororow night and remembered why I don’t listen to them. Don’t love the vocal style of either child bite or lamb of god. Some would say it’s like Pantera, but for me it’s not the same. I’ll try to just listen to the instruments more for the opening acts.

Yes, Child Bite is the opening band, a Detroit punk/metal band: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Child_Bite
