Central Michigan GP40-2LW #9712Back when the Central Michigan truly was the Central Michigan (2001ish), a northbound train from Saginaw enters the neighborhoods of Bay City on a northbound run toward Wenona Yard. Powering this train is a matching set of CMGN power, GP40-2LW #9712 and U23B #8905. Just imagine the wailing horn echoing off the houses as it rolls through crossing after crossing.GP30M4216Nov 03, 2017

CP Rail ES44AC #8712Looking more like a scene from 10 years before with Canadian red power leading amid seasonal fall colors, CP Rail power leads the way on Manifest Q392, daily mixed freight from Stanley Yard Toledo to Rougemere. They are shown eastbound approaching Haggerty Road at Plymouth, Michigan, passing the signals at "Hines Park." October 16, 2014.GP30M4216Nov 03, 2017

Michigan Shore Z627Michigan Shore turn job Z627 takes a "restricting" indication on the mainline at Waverly for the shove move into Waverly Yard in Holland. The brakeman protects the reverse move through the turnouts, as required. Pre-2011, the late PM-era mast signal here would have shown a red-over-yellow restricting indication using C&O signal rules. With the new equipment, rules have changed to Seaboard aspects. August 19, 2015.GP30M4216Oct 03, 2015

Michigan Shore GP38 #2057Mid-Michigan Railroad GP38 #2057 reverses Michigan Shore train Z627 through the plant at Waverly and into Waverly Yard. This impressive signal arrangement replaced late Pere Marquette era signal equipment at this site in 2011. Michigan Shore recently switched from a 5 day nocturnal schedule from Muskegon to Holland and return to a three day per week daylight turn schedule. 2057 is on home rails here, as in former lives it was CSXT #2106 and originally built as B&O #4806.GP30M4216Oct 03, 2015

LSRC C425M #281Venerable ALCo C425M #281 idles away with C420 #976 at the Bay City Yard back on August 25, 2000. In those days, a twin set of LSRC would typically layover at the Bay City Yard during the day before assembling and heading out on the Alpena-bound road freight in the evening. Both units retain Detroit & Mackinac colors, with 281 in its factory D&M colors from acquisition in 1980 and 976 in its version of the D&M Turtle scheme, standard in the 70s when it arrived.GP30M4216Oct 03, 2015

Amtrak NPCU #90215Now ten years ago, F40 NPCU Cab #90215 slams over the former PRR diamond with train 353, the Lake Cities, as they approach the Kalamazoo station. Just to the left of 90215 was the site of Tower 1, which guarded the interlocking of the PRR Mackinaw City line with the NYC Michigan Central Division. BO Tower is in the distance, and it gained control of the PRR diamond when Tower 1 was taken out of service. January 19, 2004.GP30M4216Jan 12, 2014

GP9 #1602Former Great Northern GP9 #1602 and ex ATSF GP7u #1500 dig in to lift 53 cars up out of the valley while rounding the curve at Wigent Road, north of Frog-eye, Michigan on the old Lake Shore & Michigan Southern. After switching at Fremont, this lengthy train proceeded across the Michigan border up to Reading, where they dropped a 49-car cut of grain hoppers for loading at the elevator. The four car train then continued to Hillsdale, set off the 1602, and proceeded as a Coldwater turn with "ugly ducking" 1500 alone. November 7, 2008.GP30M4216Nov 03, 2013

The Coldwater Turn serves many industries west of Hillsdale, including several in Coldwater proper. Their next stop will be at Quincy Siding, where they will switch out a single ATSF covered hopper, then backtrack with it to Sun-Gro Industries, where it will be set off. GP7 #1601 of 1952 vintage assists the slightly newer GP10 #1073. 9-26-2011.GP30M4216Nov 03, 2013
