GP7u #1500Ugly Duckling GP7u #1500, a former ATSF locomotive, blends in nicely with the BNSF maroon painted rolling stock in the consist of this afternoon's Coldwater Turn. As the only one of IN's locomotives not yet painted into their attractive NKP inspired black and yellow scheme, the 1500 stands out when it is mixed with their other locomotives, yet on its own the maroon with yellow trim looks pretty good! The Coldwater Turn has 7 cars going west today. They are shown at track speed at the Bunn Road crossing, just north of Jonesville. November 7, 2008.GP30M4216

GP30 #2185Lite unit No. 2185 was just fired up and is just getting underway from the Jonesville Switch, and will make its way up the short Litchfield Branch. The crew has been operating the Coldwater Turn with GP7u #1500 and just brought that locomotive and 8 cars to the Jonesville Switch. Now, they are going north to Litchfield to swap half a loaded coal train for half an empty train with the 2185, then they'll return to Jonesville to bring both locomotives and the Coldwater cars to Hillsdale for the next day's southbound road freight. GP9 #1602High Hood GP9 #1602, originally a Great Northern locomotive, leads the Indiana Northeastern northbound road freight past brilliant autumn colors along the pond at Hillsdale, MI. The 1602 is assisted by GP7u #1500. They had a lengthy 54 car freight northbound from Fremont, Indiana, and set off all but 4 cars (covered hoppers) at the Andersons grain elevator at Reading, MI. The remaining cars are coming to Hillsdale where they will soon be rearranged to go west on the Coldwater Turn, with #1500 as the lone power. 11-7-2008.GP30M4216

GP30 #2230An Indiana Northeastern northbound coal extra begins their ascent from a valley on their Hillsdale-Steubenville main line just north of the Indiana/Michigan State Line. The two GP30s bracket high hood GP7 #1601, and all three vintage geeps put on a good show. They have 29 coal loads bound for the Endicott Generating Station at the end of the Litchfield Branch, and one scrap load which will be setoff at Jackson Iron & Metal (Omnisource) in Jonesville. GP30 #2230GP30 #2230 leads former Reading sisters GP7 #1601 and GP30 #2185 up another grade on the rolling former Lake Shore & Michigan Southern trackage just north of the Indiana/Michigan State Line near Ray. This compressed shot gives a good impression of the up-and-down terrain on the line south of Hillsdale, and also showcases the IN's work at rehabilitating this once-neglected trackage. The matching trio of NKP paint inspired geeps are a great headend lashup, and they were really working to keeping this heavy train underway. August 25, 2009.GP30M4216

GP9 #1602As twilight approaches, a six car Coldwater Turn rolls east on the Old Road east of Quincy, MI, behind GP9 #1602 and GP30 #2230. This job normally rates only a single Indiana Northeastern geep, but today's version has two, a pleasant sight. The Burlington Northern covered hopper immediately behind the locomotives was just picked up from the Sun-Gro spur, one of several customers on the Old Road west of Hillsdale. GP30 #2230GP30 #2230 and GP9 #1602 switch covered hoppers on the Sun-Gro spur, near Quincy, MI. They setoff two cars and picked up the Burlington Northern car on the right this day. GP30 #2230 is a unique locomotive on the Indiana Northeastern; it is their only locomotive that still retains its original number. It was built in 1963 as the PRR 2230, then became the Penn Central 2230 and Conrail 2230, before it was sold to LTEX and retained the same number through the years until it arrived on the IN.
