BNSF hopper #466148A graffiti-free BNSF covered hopper is spotted on the spur at the Vanden Bosch feed elevator in Zeeland, Michigan. The elevator gets a few dozen covered hopper cars per year including cars from BNSF, CP Rail, the Canada Wheat Board, and various leasers. The elevator is switched by CSX Holland local job Y121. Amtrak P42DC #126Just south of the Michigan border, Amtrak P42DC #126 leads the westbound Blue Water over the South Shore Line diamond at 10th Street and across the Chicago Street road crossing in Michigan City, Indiana. Central Michigan GP40-2LW #9712Back when the Central Michigan truly was the Central Michigan (2001ish), a northbound train from Saginaw enters the neighborhoods of Bay City on a northbound run toward Wenona Yard. Powering this train is a matching set of CMGN power, GP40-2LW #9712 and U23B #8905. NS D9-40CW #9688A late 38J is passing the home signals for BO Tower as it makes its way eastward on the Michigan Line bound for Botsford Yard and their Kalamazoo setoff. Power this sunny morning is provided by NS D9-40CW #9688, Conrail SD60I #6724, NS D9-40CW #9649, and BNSF B40-8W #588 in Heritage II paint. They had 56 cars coming into Kalamazoo with a 13 car Botsford setoff, smaller than normal. The gentleman to the right also watching the train looks quite a bit like Mr. DickDV. 39J Departs Botsford Yard at West BotsfordSeven engines strong, NS manifest 39J departs the yard tracks at West Botsford for BO Tower and Elkhart, IN. The locomotives on the head end are an NS D9-40C, an NS D9-40CW, an NS SD60, an NREX SD40T-2, a NS high hood GP38-2, a Conrail GP40-2, and a unique HLCX GP38M-4. This day's Botsford pickup was 46 cars total, with 18 on the first track, then doubled. 124 cars was the total departing Kalamazoo for Elkhart. The closest track in the photo is the North Pass. NS D9-40CW #9528Hauling re-routed container express train 24Z over a detour due to an accident in Goshen, IN, number 9528 leads sister NS D9-40CW #9746, and NREX rental SD40T-2 #9385, still in SP gray and red paint. The train is shown coming north into Kalamazoo at the Junkyard switch just south of BO Tower. At the tower, they will turn east on the wye (picking up their CN track bulletin from the train order hoop) to head for Detroit on the old MC. They have parked their 22 car train on the main track behind the camera and will take this opportunity to run-around their consist in Howell siding. From the west end, they will switch out and complete their GLC interchange, on the transfer track at right.
