Southern Indiana Railway History

  • Began operations in 1939.
  • The Southern Indiana Railway runs on tracks that were once an interurban trolley line.
  • The railroad is based out of Sellersburg, IN and owns two Cummins re-powered Alco switchers.
  • The railroad hauls cement five days a week (Monday-Friday 0700 to 1500) between the Lehigh Cement plant in Speed and the CSX interchange at Watson.
  • The railroad will likely shut down when Leigh Cement shutters the Speed plant in 2022.
