Iowa Southern Railway Overview

Formerly the Appanoose County Community Railroad (APNC), Iowa Southern is a shortline based out of Centerville, Iowa running to the community of Albia, Iowa. Prior to 2016 The railroad was partly operated by the county.

The railroad was hit hard when the local Rubbermaid plant in Centerville closed its doors on September 15, 2006. At least 75% of the cargo hauled by the shortline was from Rubbermaid. The former Rubbermaid plant is now operated by Lee Container.

In 2016, a new railroad, the Iowa Southern Railway (ISRY), took over operations on the line. It is one of several short-line railroads operated by Progressive Rail Incorporated.

Iowa Southern interchanges with CP in Moravia, and BNSF/NS in Albia.
