Pioneer Industrial Railway History

  • AAR Reporting Marks - PREX
  • Operates in north Peoria, Illinois.
  • Began operating the city-owned, Peoria, Peoria Heights & Western Railroad (PPHW) on February 20, 1998.
  • Pioneer Railcorp gained control in October 1994.
  • Operates about 4.5 miles of track.
  • As of 2018, the line has no customers.
  • Currently, the line is only used for car storage. However, as of 2018 there are no cars being stored on the line.
  • Interchanges with UP in north Peoria, Illinois.

PREX 3069 GP20u 1961 As of 2018, #3069 is stored on a spur north of Pioneer Parkway, with its stacks capped. Arrived on the property in 2016 to handle car storage. Ex-ATSF 3069/ ATSF 1169.

None Currently the line is only used for car storage. Past customers included Carver Lumber, Gateway Milling, O'Brien Steel, and Peoria Plastics, which all stopped shipping either in the early 2000s or before 2009.

PREX 1752 FP9A 1955 Had an extremely brief stint on the PIR in 2003. Now assigned to the Keokuk Junction Railway. Retired in 2019. Ex-AC 1752/VIA 6511/CN 6511.
PREX 2032 Rebuilt GP20u 1961 Main engine from 2008 to 2011. Left the property in 2011. Now assigned to the Keokuk Junction Railway.
