MSU Railroad Overview

The Michigan State University Railroad operated about 2 miles of track, and mainly served as a switching railroad for MSU's T.B. Simon Power Plant. The railroad was operated under MSU's Physical Plant Division.

MSUX originally operated a former USAX 45 Tonner until 2011 when the locomotive was semi retired. A SW14 was purchased from NREX in 2011 to replace the 45 Tonner.

The railroad shut down in early 2016 after T.B. Simon Power Plant was switched to natural gas. The tracks on MSU property have since been pulled up.

MSUX interchanged with CSX at East Lansing.
