General Railroad Description
The Ann Arbor Railroad (Reporting Mark AA) is a Class III Railroad operated by WATCO Companies, INC. The main route traverses a distance of approximately fifty miles between Toledo, OH and Osmer, MI, with the majority travelling through flat agricultural land. However, the route does encounter a slight grade when travelling NB through Ann Arbor. There is a branch line of four miles stemming from Pittsfield, MI to Saline, MI to service a facility that manufactures automotive components. Major commodities transported on the railroad include agricultural products such as grain as well as sand, plastic products, wooden poles, and a variety of other items. The railroad serves as a bridge line, not originating many commodities, but shipping commodities originated by the Great Lakes Central Railroad, Norfolk Southern Railway, and several other railroads. Interchange traffic is most often received from the Great Lakes Central Railroad at Osmer and Norfolk Southern Railway in Milan and Toledo, but can received from the Indiana and Ohio Railway in Diann as well as the Canadian National Railway, CSX Transportation, and the Wheeling and Lake Erie Railway in Toledo.
