Santa Cruz, Big Trees and Pacific Railway Overview
The Santa Cruz, Big Trees and Pacific Railway is a freight and heritage railroad in Northern California.
SCBG uses diesel locomotives to haul excursion trains over an 8-mile route between Felton, CA and an interchange in Santa Cruz, CA with the Saint Paul and Pacific Railroad (formerly the Santa Cruz and Monterey Bay Railroad, Sierra Northern Railway, Union Pacific Railroad). From there, trains continue on to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk on the SPP Watsonville–Davenport line. The SCBT&P is one of very few railroads in North America with extensive street running rails.
The railroad is owned and operated by Roaring Camp Railroads.
In June 2021, Santa Cruz Big Trees & Pacific Railway assumed switching duties of the Watsonville Branch on behalf of Progressive Rail. Progressive Rail will continue to be responsible for operations, while SCBG will handle the day-to-day operations using two CF7s. The line is still OOS between Santa Cruz and Watsonville.
SCBG interchanges with Saint Paul & Pacific at Santa Cruz (inactive) and UP at Watsonville Jct.
