GM 92, the only SD89MAC, sits at the EMD plant in Lagrange, IL

The Electromotive Division SD89MAC is a 6 axle, 4,500 HP diesel-electric locomotive built by EMD in June of 2000. Only one was ever built, GM #92. It used a 16 cylinder 710 prime mover to generate 4,500 horsepower and was intended to be a less powerful, more fuel efficient alternative to the SD80MAC. It has even been said that EMD planned to replace the SD70 series with the SD89, but no orders were ever taken. Like the SD80MAC, the SD89MAC rides on the same 80' 2" frame and radial self steering HTCR-II trucks. The unit also features an isolated widecab similar to the ones used on the SD90MAC-H and SD70ACe/SD70M-2.
