The Electromotive Division SD35 is a 6 axle, 2,500 HP diesel-electric locomotive built by EMD from 1964 to 1966. Like the GP35, the SD35 uses a 16 cylinder turbocharged 567D3A engine rated at 2,500 HP.

The SD35 is generally considered as a transition unit between the smaller, specialized, less powerful 6 axle road switchers like the SD24 and the larger, mass produced, more powerful 6 axle road units like the SD40. The SD35 was the last SD to use the 567 engine, and it was the most powerful SD to date. It was moderately successful, selling 360 units, 100 of which went to Southern Railway and were built with high short hoods.

SD35's are few and far between today. Arguably the most famous SD35, Wisconsin Central #2500, was sold by CN to National Railway Equipment in 2008, where it sits in the dead line at NRE's Silvis Shops, it's fate uncertain. NREX SD35 #2500 at Silvis
