Waterloo Indiana Balwin DS-4-4-1000 pics and report.

Unread post by patrick »

We came into Waterloo at the end of our trip and I saw this black loc as we passed it on route 6. I asked zack to quickly turn around and without question he did. What we saw was awesome. A baldwin S12 and a HUGE grain elevator. I walked on the property and was approached by a man in a golf cart, the yard forman. he ok'ed me to take as many pics as i wanted. I want to stress, that before taking pics on private property, you need to get permission. Below are the pics I took of this cool looking unit including some cab shots.
Below is the logo and number boards of the unit.

next is a front view

now a rear view

Look how small this unit looks compared to the silos

Patrick,
Look the diff stacks NOT S12, it is Baldwin 660hp, DS-4-4-660, Baldwin 1000, DS-4-4-1000 or Baldwin VO-1000, I knew that Wabash had them.

Look 4 stacks at Wabash sites:

VO-1000

Has the unit been converted to propane? See the tank in the cab.

Just kidding. Hell of a place to store one. Hopefully it's empty.

They use two air pressure tanks, not propane.

Oh, oh I see that LP white tank with heater sat inside cab from back left window next door. I thought they talked about black tanks.

Yes sir, it is a real authentic operating Baldwin DS-4-4-1000. Former Detroit Terminal #103 and retaining it's original number, it is at the former DeKalb Agra elevador east of town. Mackinac Mac and I caught it there in the winter of 2002 on our return from Indianapolis. I believe the elevador was owned by Andersons at that time.
