Subject: Re: [MEXLIST] Fiery head-on collision on Ferromex

At about 1:30am 5/30, two Ferromex trains collided head-on at km post A-1730 (about 75 miles north of Chihuahua and about 150 miles south of Ciudad Juárez) on the Moctezuma District in the state of Chihuahua. This resulted in a fire in both trains.

The two trains involved were northbound manifest train D-IRJZ-28 (Irapuato-Juárez) and southbound loaded unit grain train B-JZCU-29 (Juárez-Cuautitlán).The collision occurred between points called Mocho and Loaeza.

The conductor on the northbound manifest train is deceased. The engineer and brakeman on his train are in stable condition, as are the three crew members on the southbound unit grain train.

Here is an assessment of damage to the locomotives:

Locomotive FXE 3113, completely derailed, upright, structurally and fire damaged.
Locomotive FXE 3167, completely derailed and structurally and extremely fire damaged.
Locomotive CSXT 3099, on its side, structurally and fire damaged.
Locomotive FXE 4815, on its side, structurally and fire damaged.
Locomotive FXE 2034, impaled into locomotive FXE 3167, structurally and fire damaged.
Locomotive BNSF 3838 on the rear of the unit grain train sustained no damage.

Added here as CSXT 3099 was a unit with special paint for the training train.

CSX Locomotive Roster Update As of 01 July 2018

Welcome to this month’s CSX Locomotive Roster Update! This update covers all changes discovered since 01 June, through 01 July.

This report represents to the best of our knowledge, the working CSX locomotive roster. There are always changes we are not yet aware of – if you think you’ve spotted a new repaint, let us know!

This month is lite update, with only four changes made. Of note, 2810 is a YN2 repaint, a rare EMD change, leaving us with only 26 remaining YN2 EMDs, with most of them stored.

Any questions? Comment below!

CSX Locomotive Roster Update As of 01 August 2018

Welcome to this month’s CSX Locomotive Roster Update! This update covers all changes discovered since 01 July, through 01 August.

This report represents to the best of our knowledge, the working CSX locomotive roster. There are always changes we are not yet aware of – if you think you’ve spotted a new repaint, let us know!

Another lite update for the first of August, with not many discoveries in July. We will be rolling back the as-yet unconfirmed SD60/I/M retirements before the next update. As you may recall, we received word around January that the entire fleet would be retired from a reliable source, but that decision was then pulled back apparently as the company was still in flux around the loss of CEO E. Hunter Harrison. And so only a few ended up retired, with most in storage since. We’ll bring back the ones we cannot confirm are retired. At least a half dozen are still active.

Any questions? Comment below!

This report represents to the best of our knowledge, the working CSX locomotive roster. There are always changes we are not yet aware of – if you think you’ve spotted a new repaint, let us know!

Another lite update for the first of August, with not many discoveries in July. We have rolled back the SD60/M/I units which were not actually retired back into our numbers. There are currently 21 SD60s, 23 SD60Is, and 24 SD60Ms.

Otherwise we have a few retirements and a few repaints. The 1601 is the last Genset on the roster, and is expected to also be retired soon as well.

I’m guessing the majority of YN2 painted units are Dash 9’s at this point?

CSX Locomotive Roster Update As of 01 October 2018

Welcome to this month’s CSX Locomotive Roster Update! This update covers all changes discovered since 01 September through 01 October.

This report represents to the best of our knowledge, the working CSX locomotive roster. There are always changes we are not yet aware of – if you think you’ve spotted a new repaint, let us know!

This month we were able to confirm another slate of retirements, this time a bunch of random units in the end-cab switcher department. Interestingly, every single update for this month involves an EMD, no GEs to be found.

We can also confirm that CSX does have 10 SD70ACe-T4s on order for 2019 delivery, likely in Q1 or Q2. Beyond the fact that there is an order, we don’t yet know how they’ll be numbered, or anything else really.

CSX Locomotive Roster, if all storage units were retired

So this hypothetical update takes the current roster and subtracts out all units currently in storage as part of the precision scheduled railroading makeover. Basically we take the storage list and “retire” them all. Yes, it’s gross. There are over 800 units on the storage list. No, we don’t think they’ll all be going away. But it’s an interesting “what if”. So here goes…

Any questions? Comment below!

What all would be retired?
1 ES44AH, leaving 548
2 CW44AH, leaving 126
23 CW44AC, leaving 461
1 ES40DC, leaving 300
13 C40-9W, leaving 36
3 C40-8WM, leaving 7
104 C40-8W, leaving 90
114 SD70AC, leaving 87
18 SD60, leaving 3
19 SD60I, leaving 4
12 SD60M, leaving 2
130 SD50-2, leaving 18
36 SD40-2, leaving 223
90 GP40-2, leaving 244
6 GP39-2, leaving 14
5 SD38-2, leaving 0
52 GP38-2, leaving 163
8 GP38-2S, leaving 26
16 GP15-1, leaving 6
7 GP15T, leaving 13
5 MP15, leaving 2
18 MP15T, leaving 20
33 MP15AC, leaving 14
9 SW1500, leaving 5
3 SD50-3, leaving 11
3 SD40-3, leaving 147
2 GP40-3, leaving 61
3 GP38-3, leaving 61
66 RDSLUG, leaving 106
7 SWMTYS, leaving 16

It’s worth noting here that for many model types, like the GEVOs, that the units in storage are likely mechanical in nature, but deemed currently not worth rebuilding, so they’re left in storage. But the mass storage types, like the SD50-2, SD70AC, and C40-8W are clearly visible as potential losses to future cuts.

With all of this in mind, if these units were all retired tomorrow, the new roster stats would look like:

Paint totals, (pct), change:
YN3B: 1275 (41.63%) -180
YN3: 1384 (45.18%) -545
YN2: 404 (13.19%) -85

Builder totals, (pct), change:
General Electric: 1770 (57.79%) -147
Electro-Motive: 795 (25.95%) -568
CSX in-house: 217 (7.08%) -16
Other: 281 (9.00%) -79

Built for totals, (pct)
CSX Transportation: 2331 (76.10%) -338
Seaboard System: 272 (8.88%) -206
Chessie System: 260 (8.49%) -132
Conrail: 194 (6.33%) -133
EMD Locomotive Leasing: 3 (0.10%) -1
Richmond, Fredericksburg & Potomac: 3 (0.10%)

Traction Type
AC: 1424 (-140)
DC: 1639 (-670)

YN2 EMDs Remaining: 16 (-10)

Average Fleet Build Date*: 1998.71 (+2.29)
Total Units on Roster: 3063 (-810)
Total Available Horsepower: 10,872,900 (-2,351,600) -17.8%

CSX Locomotive Roster Update As of 01 December 2018

Welcome to this month’s CSX Locomotive Roster Update! This update covers all changes discovered since 01 October through 01 December.

This report represents to the best of our knowledge, the working CSX locomotive roster. There are always changes we are not yet aware of – if you think you’ve spotted a new repaint, let us know!

There was no update in November because we only had one repaint to share – hardly worth putting the report together. The good news is we found more changes in November: the bad news is that it was limited to just three more repaints for a grand total of just four changes discovered in the last two months.

CSX Locomotive Roster Update As of 01 February 2019

Welcome to this month’s CSX Locomotive Roster Update! This update covers all changes discovered since 01 January, 2019.

This report represents to the best of our knowledge, the working CSX locomotive roster. There are always changes we are not yet aware of – if you think you’ve spotted a new repaint, let us know!

This month’s update is the largest we’ve ever posted – with over 200 retirements plus the standard handful of other repaints.

On tap below are the current roster metrics, now that CSX has essentially wiped the fleet clean of SD60s and SD50-2s. A few hold-outs remain, but those are also likely headed for the door. Note that the SD50-3s are remaining on the roster for now.

Still coming in the next few months are SD70ACe-T4 deliveries, and it sounds like they’re starting up both SD70AC and CW44AC rebuild programs. Tis the rumor, anyway.

Any questions? Comment below!

Re: CSX Locomotive Roster News, Updates & Information Thread

Saturnalia wrote:CSX Locomotive Roster Update As of 01 February 2019

I'm assuming the one wrecked unit sold to CP had something to do with the insurance claim or something like that?

That's what we're thinking.

Also, reminder to avoid quoting a 300+ line post just to ask an overall question

CSX Locomotive Roster Update As of 01 March 2019

Welcome to this month’s CSX Locomotive Roster Update! This update covers all changes discovered since 01 February, 2019.

This report represents to the best of our knowledge, the working CSX locomotive roster. There are always changes we are not yet aware of – if you think you’ve spotted a new repaint, let us know!

This month’s update is a modest one after the last monster, with a couple repaints and another small batch of Dash8 retirements. We still suspect the remainder of the Dash8s won’t be far behind these in being terminated from the roster.

No additional news on the upcoming SD70 rebuild program, nor the SD70ACe-T4s, but both shouldn’t be too far into the future now.

Any questions? Comment below!
