My Paper Railroad

Unread post by Mr. Tops »

No name yet, anyone who cares to lend their creativity, give it a shot. If I get enough names, I may make a poll to get the best one voted in. Winner gets to be VP

My railroad is an attempt by the railroad itself and the government to "stimulate" the economy. Although not owned by the government, the government is backing and lending money for this project in hopes that the railroad will offer competition for the Class One's; drive down the cost of shipping by rail in hopes of boosting the economy by making it easier (and less expensive) for American industries to ship by rail. This is a Class II - Regional, which has bought/taken over several redundant lines from Class One's, as well as a few shortline acquisitions. Customer service will not be taken lightly and we hope to thrive in carload traffic as well as offering a competitive solution for businesses looking for an alternative to shipping via Class one (okay, I'll be blunt, hopefully we steal a lot of traffic from Class ones  ).

The Lines (lineage in parenthesis)
CSX Chicago-GR-Plymouth (trackage rights on CSX into Detroit -- hmm...Sterling Yard anyone) (PM)
CSX Detroit-Carleton (trackage rights on CSX Carleton to Toledo) (CRSA/PRR)
CFE Chicago (Blue Island)-Ft.Wayne-Lima-Crestline, OH (CR/PRR)
CSX Chicago-Lafayette-Crawfordsville-Indy-Connersville-Cincy (Monon/B&O)
IORY Cincinnati-Midland City-Columbus (CSX/B&O)
CSX Columbus-Findlay-Kenton-Toledo (CR/TOC)
UP Chicago (Blue Island)-Joliet-Bloomington-Springfield-St. Louis (SP)

The Power
GP38-2: ex-LLPX 2277-2294, LLPX 2301-2343

SD40-2: former FURX 3000-3049, CITX 3053-3112, CEFX 3113-3152, CEFX 2783-2815, EMDX 2816-2825, WC 6900-6949

SD60: former UP 2100, 2155-2239

The Trains
100-Intermodal
200-Automotive
300-Merchandise
400-Coal
500-Grain
600-Other Commodity
700-Local
800-Yard Job
900-Wildcard (lite power, specials, shuttles, extras, recrews, etc)

For intermodal, auto, merchandise trains: Even=east, odd=west
For bulk commodity trains: even=empty, odd=load

UPDATE:
The SD38's have been retired, 143 SD40-2's have been added to the roster due to increasing traffic, and we've finally purchased our 4-axle power although it was not what we had initailly planned. 61 GP38-2's from LLPX. Our calculations show us needing around 50 4-axle units for local service. The 11 extra will be ample padding in case failure, etc. and will allow us to rotate the fleet through the shop to keep them in top shape.

You could call it the Michigan, Ohio, and Western, or the MOW, as that is what it is going to need a lot of.

I like your system on the train symbols, very similar to what I use for my layout.
