In the past, I think 352 would turn to become 351 next morning and 354 would turn to become 353. Is there a difference in the consist that would require 354 to be 351? It’s possible due to the delay the 354 crew was out of time to wye the train upon arrival, but you wouldn’t think it would take 2+ hours to accomplish this morning. Just my surmizations!
350 becomes the same days 355, 352 becomes the next days 351, and 354 becomes the next days 353.

If I understand correctly, if 354 is late enough to the point the crew can’t wye the locomotives, or require some sort of special move in Pontiac (setting out private cars for CN, setting out a bad order, etc), they’ll call a crew off the extra board to handle that.

I filmed a very similar situation that happened back in April, where 350 got in nearly an hour and a half late due to an ITCS failure on the leader. The executive/geometry cars were on the back (bet those guys weren’t thrilled), thus they were running with two units, luckily enough running elephant style so they didn’t have to wye the working locomotive. They had to wye the full train, swap the leaders so the bad unit was trailing, clean the train, then they could depart. That amounted up to about an hour and 45 minute long delay for 355 leaving Pontiac.

Amtrak 355 passed MP 22.5 at 6:45 pm shoving the train at 10 mph again. Another long night riding Wolverines.

Decided to fire up the scanner with my new antenna. It sounds like 352 is turning an engine tonight on the beltline. A bit of an unusual move as it’s 354 normally doing it under normal circumstances.

Amtrak 353 hit a pedestrian at Elm St. in Kalamazoo. Back on the move around 3:30,
2 1/2 hours late.

There is a slow order on Main at around MP 22.5 on the Holly these last couple of days. Amtrak's trains both ways are crawling past my house at restricted speed. Saw a Hulcher truck out back two days ago that might have been related.

Have there been any extra coaches on the Bluewater or Wolverines this week?
Thanks

Big shoutout to the Amtrak crews working the holiday today so that people can get to family and friends for the holiday!

Unfortunately, I don’t think there is a lot of spare equipment to go around, but I have not been trackside to see any Amtraks this week to verify. As the new Venture cars have entered service in the Midwest, a big chunk of the Horizon fleet has been reassigned to cover other services (Cascades), or service expansions (Virginia services and Borealis among others) so there just isn’t a lot of extra equipment that’s able to be pressed into service.

MDOT Rail’s Twitter feed yesterday posted some photos of 365 arriving at East Lansing where “almost 300” passengers were boarding the westbound train. It was hard to tell from the photos, but I think it was still the usual 6 cars: a Horizont coach, 4 Ventures, and an Amcafe.

Wolverine 350/355 had 5/5 ventures yesterday (11/27). Charger up front and the rear as well. I assume the same goes for the others.

Not a good night for many Amtraks in Michigan. In the oh-snap department, it looks like 352 suffered some kind of failure east of New Buffalo and became stranded. 364 may have been enlisted to pull disabled 352 to Niles, causing 364 to become significantly delayed, but getting 352’s passengers to a location where they could get bus transport to continue. 354 was socked 2+ hours waiting for this mess to get resolved ahead of them. And 355 was delayed at Battle Creek 3+ hours because they were supposed to use one of those eastbound train’s Chicago crew, but couldn’t continue west until an eastbound train arrived. Ugh.

But, in the someone-put-their-thinking-cap-on department, 370 had a Charger leading Friday night and a P32 (#519) trailing to Grand Rapids. With lake effect doing its thing across much of West Michigan, not a bad idea to have a standby diesel along…just in case. We’ll see if 519 leads westbound tomorrow morning.

352 arrived at Pontiac at 5 am without any passengers, 7.5 hours late. 354 arrived at Pontiac first, around 3:50 am, 2 hours and 50 minutes late. Poor Amtrak. Michigan is just one big branchline for them with no facilities or support for any problems whatsoever. Poor passengers, especially during Thanksgiving.

Amtrak 351 passed MP 22.5 at 7 am, about an hour and ten minutes late this morning. Not bad considering that the equipment didn't arrive in Pontiac until after 4 am.

Amtrak 353 just rolled by MP 22.5 about 20 minutes late with two Charger locomotives elephant style and four old coaches and one Venture on the rear at restricted speed.

Looked it up on Amtrak's website and this is not 353 as 353 was cancelled today! Dead head move for some reason. Poor Amtrak. Poor Thanksgiving Holiday travelers. Funny how this is our first cold weather in Michigan this autumn too.

It's turning out to be a bad day on the Michigan Line. Following the late departure of #351 and #353 operating as a deadhead move, #365 lost about 1.5 hrs at Potterville due to a switch being out of correspondence and awaiting local police to remove a disruptive passenger. At CP 211 (about 7 miles east of New Buffalo), #365 lost another 3 hours with engine problems, and #353's equipment waited behind.

To continue the Wolverine's disastrous busy Thanksgiving Weekend, 351 has not left Pontiac depot yet this morning, it should have an hour ago. The Train Status says nothing about delay or cancelation.

Train 351 is out of Pontiac and rolled past MP 22.5 at 7:20 am, an hour and a half behind schedule.

Is Amtrak keeping a protect engine in Port Huron now? P42 #57 was sitting at the station all weekend (Friday/Saturday/Sunday).
